• Disney: wasn’t so big and now is now
one of the biggest media groups in the
world

Vista distribution company, Touchstone
Pictures
• Acquired: Miramax Pictures company
and ABC TV.
• MGM/UA: had problems in economy but the
company re-establish itself through funding and
distribution of the James Bond films.
• Paramount was one of the original major studios
and was used as the test case for the 1948 anti-trust
legislation. Like the other major studios, it is now
part of a large multimedia
• 20th Century Fox has existed in one form or
another since 1915. Bought by Rupert Murdoch
and formed television and satellite companies
• Universal Studios: (1912) was taken by Music
Corporation of America (MCA). Then in 1990 the
company was bought by Sony's Japanese
competitor, Matsushita, who hoped to match
media production with media technology

Hollywood has worked with issues, ideas, and
events that have stretched the world over.
The Hollywood film industry had remained the
dominant player in the industry by leveraging
foreign markets. Globally this has also meant
the incorporation of more films and actors from
traditional markets such as Europe.
It also means the rise of movies and stars from
non-traditional markets as well. Whereas the
globalization of the film industry has meant
many things to many different people.
