1. FEF FUNCTIONS FOR MEDIA CONVERTERS
FEF is an IEEE 802.3u standard far-end fault protocol. It detects the
fault on fiber media converter network. If a fiber link error occurs, it
sends signal to another media converter. It uses to detect and
troubleshoot fault immediately. It prevents data transmission till the
fault is rectified.
LEF FUNCTIONS FOR MEDIA CONVERTERS
LFP implies Link Fault Pass means the link fault of the local side media
converter is transferred to the remote side media converter. LFP
Function sends an alert to the network administrator about the link issue
and offer quick solution to monitor the network. It helps to data loss
mitigation.
THINGS TO CONSIDER WHILE USING LFP AND FEF
MEDIA CONVERTERS:
Select same media converter for the two sides of the connection.
Use ethernet to fiber media converter as mediator while enabling
the FEF and LEP functions.
Test the function before implementing on already functional
network
Consult networking expert for better connectivity and transmission
result.
Both FEF as well as LFP functions on media converters are important for
diagnosing and troubleshooting network outage, and ensure efficient
network operation of the links.

of Media Converters
WHY FEF AND LFP FUNCTION REQUIRED?
Ethernet media converters are gaining popularity owing to their
beneficial features. The device supports communication between two or
more dissimilar networks such as copper to fiber to extend geographical
transmission distance. However, in such data transmission if fiber or
copper link fails on one side the device on the other side has to work
even there is no data transmission. Also, it will not report to system
administrator. To overcome this challenge, Far end fault FEF and Link
fault pass through LFP functions of media converter use.
