Favorite thing about being an academic advisor
I love the one-on-one conversations with students and getting to help
a young professional in their journey through Higher Ed. I also LOVE to
be the deliverer of good news and engaging in positive conversations
and 8/10 times the news in advising appointments tends to be good in
regards to degree progression, career options, internship
opportunities!
2. What are students saying about UAAs?
• Thank you so much for helping me through my first year in Public Health. You have been an amazing
advisor and I feel very lucky that I have you to help me. I know how hard you guys work around this
time plus it being the holidays. Wishing you a very happy thanksgiving!
• "Thank you so much for all your help with my class schedule! Initially, I was very overwhelmed and
stressed with my options. However, your advice made me feel a lot better and less stressed about my
classes for the Spring semester.
• Thanks for helping me do all the many things I want to do during my four years at Carolina and for
taking the time to respond to all of the hundreds of emails you get from students.
• You’ve been awesome! You were very real with me and didn’t hide what classes I needed and what
classes I may take caution with. I appreciate that honesty, as it showed me that you genuinely want me
to succeed here.

8. Save the Date: Appreciative Advising
Workshop
Friday, December 9, 2022
9:00 am – 1:30 pm
This in-person workshop will focus on providing an
overview of this exciting movement within the
academic advising community called Appreciative
Advising. The presentation is based on the book titled,
The Appreciative Advising Revolution. The six phases
of Appreciative Advising – Disarm, Discover, Dream,
Design, Deliver, and Don't Settle – will be defined.
Participants will not only learn what each phase
means, but they will also have the opportunity to
learn how to implement each of these phases.
