2. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the faculty members who
shared their insightful teachings on how to begin writing a research
article, a literature review, a thesis through this Academic writing course.
I am grateful to the faculty for their invaluable advice, suggestions and
continuous motivation.

3. Internet of Things Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda
Internet of Things Vision :
• IoT is network of physical objects that contain embedded tech to comm and
sense/interact with their internal states/external environment
• Confluence of efficient wireless protocols, improved sensors, cheaper
processors, and a bevy of start-ups and established companies
– developing necessary management
– app software has finally made concept of IoT mainstream
4. • Number of Internet-connected devices surpassed the no. of human beings on
the planet in 2011, and by 2020
– Internet-connected devices are expected to number between 26 billion and 50 billion
• IoT makes use of synergies that are generated by convergence of Consumer,
Business and Industrial Internet Consumer, Business and Industrial Internet
• Convergence creates open, global network connecting people, data, and things
and leverages the cloud
– to connect intelligent things that sense and transmit a broad array of data
– helping creating services that would not be obvious without this level of connectivity
and analytical intelligence
4
5. • Enabling tech for IoT can be grouped into 3 categories:
– tech that enable “things” to acquire contextual info
– tech that enable “things” to process contextual info
– tech to improve security and privacy
6. • First 2 categories can be jointly understood as functional building blocks
required building “intelligence” into “things”
• which are indeed the features that differentiate the IoT from the usual
Internet
• 3rd category is not a functional but rather a de facto requirement
– without which the penetration of the IoT would be severely reduced
• Network tech have to cope with the new challenges such as
– very high data rates
– dense crowds of users
– low latency
– low energy
– low cost
– massive number of devices
8. • IoT becomes established in smart factories, both the volume
– and the level of detail of the corporate data generated will increase
• business models will no longer involve just one company
– but will instead comprise highly dynamic networks of companies
– completely new value chains
• Data will be generated and transmitted autonomously
– by smart machines
– data will inevitably cross company boundaries
• Data that were initially generated and exchanged in order to coordinate
manufacturing and logistics activities b/w different companies
– if read in conjunction with other data
– suddenly provide third parties with highly sensitive information about one of the
partner companies
– For example, give them an insight into its business strategies
• New instruments will be required if companies wish to pursue the
conventional strategy of keeping
– such knowledge secret in order to protect competitive advantage
9. COURSE FEEDBACK
SWAYAM COURSE: ACADEMIC WRITING
It was a good opportunity and experience to enroll in this course. The way of
taking lectures and sharing of different techniques to start writing an article,
information about tools for testing plagiarism made confident to start writing a
review paper. And also, self-assessments, assignments and graded quizzes helped
to rate and understand ourselves where we are.
I can tell you that this is a compulsory course to be taken in order to improve
themselves in writing.
