21. Aerodynamic Drag
•Aerodynamic drag (Fa) is the force which opposes the forward motion of
the vehicle when the vehicle is traveling. The aerodynamic drag, or force
of air resistance is a function of
•Air properties (density; which is related to humidity, altitude,
temperature)
•The air density (r) is the mass per unit volume and, if taken at what are
considered standard conditions, equals 1.23 kg/m3.
•The speed of the vehicle (V) in meters per second (m/sec). The speed in
kilometers per hour divided by 3.6 yields the speed in m/sec.
•Vehicle shape configuration or coefficient of drag (Cd).
22. FRONT END OF CAR
Frontal pressure is reduced by minimizing exposed frontal
surface area and making front end smooth.
Continuous curve originating from the line of bumper
allowing the air molecules to pass smoothly.
