The Industry 4.0 concept initially started back in 2011,
essentially driven by cyber-physical convergence, enabled
by IoT technologies, digitalization and automation, lacks an
important variable in the overall equation: PEOPLE
Industry 5.0, as the new development paradigm introduced
by the European Commission under the ground-breaking
perspective of Society 5.0, places the wellbeing of the
worker in the agenda.
From industry 4.0 to industry 5.0

The focus on:
– Human-centric approaches: promotion of talent, diversity
and empowerment of workers
– Business resilience: development and implementation of
new technologies and digital tools that allow companies to be
agile and resilient.
– Sustainability: the transfer of knowledge to workers so they
can lead actions on sustainability and the respect of
planetary boundaries.

Main goals:
– Provide knowledge and skills to managers and workers in footwear
industry so that they can interconnect the implementation of new
technologies, processes and systems for maximum performance of
their companies, taking a step towards sustainability and efficiency,
excelling human experiences in work;
– Prepare the footwear sector to embrace the challenge of transition to
sustainable, human-centric and resilient industry, transcending
efficiency and productivity objectives, in line with the sectorial pact
for skills (anchored in EU Pact for Skills), allying benefits for industry,
workers and society.

Main result:
ICT multilevel tailor-made upskilling and reskilling schemes and
correspondent training contents and tools, to support the
implementation of i5.0 objectives towards a green and digital
transition in footwear industry

Target-groups:
– Footwear workforce - workers & managers in Footwear industry;
– VET teachers, trainers, coaches and other stakeholders directly connected
and working in the footwear industry, providing VET in several EQF levels.

While Industry 5.0 brings many potential benefits, it also presents several
challenges for the education sector.
One major challenge is the need to prepare students for jobs that do not
yet exist
- Which skills and knowledge will be required in the future?
- What will be the training needs in a i5.0 context?
Educators/trainers: difficult to prepare students for the job market and
ensure they can compete in a rapidly changing economy.

A field research related to i5.0 applied to Footwear, focuses
on training needs and a definition of the future profiles.

5 focus groups - 40 participants
– 33 questions divided by topics, including the main pillars of i5.0

natural resources, reduce wast and environmental impact

– Resilience: higher degree of robustness in industrial production, arming it better against disruption;
