TIME MANAGEMENT
What is project time management?
– Project time management involves analyzing and developing a schedule and
timeline for project completion.
– Formalized time management processes provide a buffer for things like
unexpected roadblocks and misestimated timelines.
– These time management plans determine what tasks to adjust, and how to
allocate and manage resources throughout the project.

beneficial and strategic needs.
Fewer mistakes:
– Focusing on only one aspect of a project helps get the right work done and
prevents mistakes overall.
Improved proficiency:

More opportunities:
– Project time management helps teams or departments become more efficient at
managing projects and getting them completed on time and on budget.
This opens more opportunities to manage additional projects in the future.
Stay on budget:
– Everyone knows the phrase, “Time is money.” Keeping a project on target not only
maintains budget but keeps stakeholders happy that their dollars are working in the
most efficient, valuable way.

TIME MANAGEMENT
Time management best practices:
Pareto Principle
– The Pareto Principle is also known as the 80/20 rule. This means that 20% of your
time should produce 80% of your results.
– From the beginning, identify and highlight the tasks that provide the most value.
– If at any time value and time fall out of balance, review the task priority and, if
necessary, submit a formal change request.

Keep it simple
– It’s easy to overcomplicate tasks.
– Take a step back, evaluate the real “why”, and think of more focused ways to
accomplish a task.
– Concentrate efforts, always keeping the end project goals in mind.

TIME MANAGEMENT
Set daily, weekly, and monthly goals:
– Setting goals helps to instill (bithana) a sense of urgency(fori tor pa).
– Set a monthly goal and work backward.
– Weekly and daily goals should roll into each other so by the time teams and
departments hit their daily, then weekly goals, they meet the entire month’s
targets.
Take short breaks:
– When breaking large tasks down into manageable pieces, make sure to take breaks.
Providing much-needed, scheduled breaks keeps the mind fresh and the body
energized. Wednesday, December 4, 2019

Act instead of worry:
– Drop the worry and take action.
– Do more research. Ask for an extension if needed and make the necessary
adjustments to get something done right.

TIME MANAGEMENT
Time is limited:
– No matter how you slice it, there are only 24 hours in a day.
– That applies to you, and to your coworker (Sathi) who only seems able to do half the
amount of work you do.
You can accomplish more with less effort:
– When you learn to take control of your time, you improve your ability to focus.

from feeling like you don’t have enough time.
– Become more successful in your career:

Learning opportunities are everywhere:
– Great learning opportunities are around you, if you’ve got time to stop and take
advantage them.
– You work more efficiently, you have that time.
Reduce stress:
– When you don’t have control of your time, it’s easy to end up feeling rushed and
overwhelmed.
– Once you learn how to manage your time, you no longer subject yourself to that
level of stress. Wednesday, December 4, 2019

TIME MANAGEMENT
Free time is necessary:
– Everyone needs time to relax and unwind (sakoon). Unfortunately, though, many of
us don’t get enough of it.
– Having good time management skills helps you find that time. When you’re busy,
you’re getting more done.
Self-discipline is valuable:
– When you practice good time management, you get better and more self-discipline
you learn.
– This is a valuable skill that will begin to impact other areas of your life where a lack
of discipline has kept you from achieving a goal.

TIME MANAGEMENT
– The Expeditionary Combat Support System (ECSS) was a failed enterprise resource
planning software project undertaken by the United States Air Force (USAF) between
2005 and 2012.
– The goal of the project was to automate and streamline the
USAF's logistics operations by, in part, consolidating and replacing over 200
separate legacy systems.
– The scope of the system was to allow the organization track all of its physical assets
including airplanes to fuel and even spare parts.
– The ECSS program was established through two main contracts.

– The first, with a computer technology corporation popular for its efficient database
software called Oracle.
– This contract was to be used to supply the project the commercial off-the-shelf(COTS)
software.
– The second being, with the Computer Science Corporation (CSC), used to
amalgamate the COTS software into the existing Air Force infrastructure.
– After spending $1.1 billion on its development, the USAF concluded in 2012 that the
system, "has not yielded any significant military capability" and estimated that, "it
would require an additional $1.1B.

– About a quarter of the original scope to continue and fielding would not be until
2020."
– Based on that conclusion, the USAF canceled the program in November 2012.
– United States Senate Committee on Armed Services members Carl Levin and John
McCain characterized the failed project as "one of the most egregious examples of
mismanagement in recent memory."
