2009 NATIONAL FAME AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED
NEW ORLEANS, La. – Nov. 12, 2008 – Basic American Foods, Hobart
Corporation, Schwan’s Food Services, Inc., and Tyson Foods, Inc., sponsors of the 20th
annual Foodservice Achievement Management Excellence (FAME) Awards program, are
pleased to announce the 2009 FAME Award winners.
The FAME Awards most prestigious honor – the Golden School Foodservice
Director of the Year Award – will be presented to Director of School Nutrition Services
Joanne Kinsey, SNS, Chesapeake Public Schools in Chesapeake, Va. Kinsey has been a
foodservice director in five states over the last thirty years. In her many roles she has
demonstrated leadership, creativity and an unwavering commitment to child nutrition. She
has implemented staff training programs and point-of-sale systems that allowed school meal
programs to run more efficiently allowing her to concentrate on the daily task of providing
nutritious meals to students. She has educated administrators at many of the districts she has
worked in on the benefits of nutritious breakfast and after-school snack programs which
result in better student behavior and higher concentration during class time.
Kinsey’s commitment to child nutrition has been demonstrated beyond school lunch
and her own community. She is active in the school foodservice industry serving as president
in both New Hampshire and Pennsylvania’s child nutrition organizations. Kinsey currently
advises several food manufacturers and hunger relief organizations domestically and abroad.
She lectures and teaches at conferences, universities and schools continuing to share her
career knowledge and experience to move the industry of child nutrition forward. Kinsey is
described by colleagues as dedicated and anxious to try new ideas for the betterment of
children through nutrition and education and has been honored on numerous occasions for
her efforts including being a two-time winner of the Thelma Flanagan Gold Award in the
state of Penn.

Spirit Award; Supervisor of Food & Nutrition Services Jodi Risee, MS, RD, LDN at Anne
Arundel County Public Schools in Annapolis, Md. – Silver Rising Star Award; Food
Service Director Debra Amos, SNS at Arcadia Unified School District in Arcadia, Calif. –
Silver Special Achievement Award; and Southwest Region Manager - Education Tracey
Tinder at ConAgra Foods, Huntington Beach, Calif. – Silver Friend of Child Nutrition
Award.
For 20 years the FAME Awards have honored school foodservice professionals who
raise industry standards by providing innovation and leadership within their school districts
and communities. The awards will be presented at an event on Jan. 18, 2009 at the Sheraton
New Orleans Hotel in New Orleans, La. during the School Nutrition Association’s (SNA)
