Georgia Southern Magazine Blog
1. As someone who enjoys reading, it is always nice to come across new and
exciting things to read. Nothing beats sitting back on a lazy weekend day or unwinding
after a stressful workday with good reading material. I have recently found the Georgia
Southern Magazine. According to the Georgia Southern web site, “ the magazine is
published three times a year for Alumni and Friends of Georgia Southern University by
the Office of Marketing & Communications.” The publication features articles about
Georgia Southern alumni, current happenings on the campus, and much more.
One of the articles that caught my attention was “Keane Observations” written by
Crissie Elrick. The article was in the summer 2014 edition of the magazine. In the
article, we are introduced to Georgia Southern student Kelsey Keane. She is a recent
Fulbright Scholarship recipient and is traveling to Kosovo to work as an English teaching
assistant. Even though Kelsey and I have different majors and goals set for ourselves, it is
always inspiring to read about how other students work hard and achieve their dream. I
felt a connection with Kelsey. In the article, we get a picture of the steps she took to get
her scholarship and where she is going. The article did a wonderful job of painting a full
picture of Kelsey’s plan. For upcoming articles in the Georgia Southern Magazine, I
would like to see more articles like this one. We all can always use more motivation in
our crazy, hectic lives. Hearing real stories of fellow classmates making their dreams
come true makes me push harder to make my own dreams come true.
The summer issue also featured an article titled “Where Are They Now?” written
by Sandra Bennett. The reoccurring segment catches up with former Georgia Southern
coaches and professors to find out how their time at the university has shaped their lives.
In this issue, Bill Speith is interviewed. I love any time a magazine remembers to look
back. We live in a time when everyone is looking for the next best thing and it is nice to
remember those who have shaped our world now. It makes me feel grounded and helps
me to remember that I can slow down and enjoy those who have made us into the people
we are.
These are just a few examples of the types of articles that the Georgia Southern
Magazine offers. The magazine has features that show Georgia Southern University from
all perspectives. The magazine is published three times a year so readers are always up to
date on the latest things concerning Georgia Southern. If you are a proud eagle then this
is the one magazine that is worth your time!
