2. Strengths
As this task was the first experience directing an interview the quality was quite poor
and as a group we made lots of mistakes in editing, framing and the use of mise-en
scene. However these mistakes will be resolved in the MainTask.
An extreme close up of a text message was used a creative
way of presenting the title of the documentary.
The interviewee was positioned to the right of centre
which followed the conventional position and he was
looking away from the camera.
The shot was also captured in medium close up which is a
common shot type in interviews.
The light source was also in front of the interviewee to
avoid silhouettes behind
We used a variety of shots for our cutaways showing
relevance to what the interviewee was talking about
The audio of the interview was also a strength as
there was no background noise.
3. Weaknesses
One of the many weaknesses to this interview was
positioning of the camera and the framing of the
interview itself. The camera was positioned just below
eye-level therefore the shot was low angle. Low angle
shots are used in interviews however this is only used to
show authority/power.
There was also an absence of mise en scene in the
background of this shot to show the relevance of the
location and persona being interviewed as well as there
being too much headroom in the shot which could
distract an audience.
The cutaways in the interview were mostly boring and
wouldn't keep an audience interested due to quality
and lack of variety. The shot on the left was on screen
for far too long.
