ā¢ Interleaving, is where items of data from
different sources, such as video and audio,
are stored alternatively on the storage
media to reduce retrieval delays. The
integration of a range of forms of
information leads to increased storage
requirements.
3. COMPRESSION &
DECOMPRESSION
ā¢ Compression is a method of removing
redundant or repetitive elements from a
file so that the file requires less storage
space and thus less time to transmit.
Compression schemes are: lossless = no
data lost and lossy = small amounts of
data lost to allow compression.
ā¢ Compressed data must be
decompressed to extract the original
information. There are of standard
compressed file formats for different
media, such as JPEG for images and
MPEG for video.
4. HYPERMEDIA
ā¢ A concept that is utilized in multimedia is called
hypermedia. Hypermedia refers to the linking of
data types. For example clicking on a particular
section of the screen may cause additional text
to be displayed or the user to jump to a different
section of the program. hypertext is the text that
is linked into other sections
