INCREASED SECURITY AWARENESS
The threat from terrorism has led to more demand
for security particularly at public and commercial
sites. People are also more conscious about
personal safety and the security of those around
them.
URBANISATION
A growing proportion of the global population lives
in cities. Both the size and population of urban
areas are increasing.
DEVELOPMENT OF INFRASTRUCTURES
Urbanisation is leading to an expansion in inner-city
infrastructures and a greater demand for better
transportation networks.
INCREASED WEALTH AND A HIGHER
STANDARD OF LIVING
Just as the global population is growing so is the
middle class, particularly in fast developing
countries.
TECHNOLOGY-DRIVEN GROWTH AND
CONNECTIVITY
As the Internet of Things begins to create real
value for customers, previously unconnected
security products are becoming intelligent and
provide access to data which can be utilised to
improve business efficiencies.
COMPLIANCE WITH LEGISLATION AND
REGULATIONS
As new regulations come into force to tackle
security issues on a national, regional and
international level, many sites have to increase
the level of security to ensure compliance.

 The threats :
 TEMPEST
 Intelligence gathering in order to gain a military or
financial advantage by collecting the emissions
generated by electronic equipment.
 Software interprets these signals and intelligence
gathered.
 This category is known as EMSEC – Emissions Security
and servers are particularly vulnerable.
 ESPIONAGE & SABOTAGE
 Connection to the server and downloading information
on a simple portable hard drive
 Wilful damage by conventional means either from a
disgruntled employee, foreign sympathiser or agent
To protect against EMP radiations
© Groupe de sécurité Gunnebo 30 mai 2018 page 55
Reminder: What EMP is…
 Electro Magnetic Pulse radiation
(EMP)
 This can occur naturally but the main
concern is man made.
Either
 A consequence of a deliberate nuclear
detonation conventionally (Nuclear
EMP) or detonated at high altitude
(High EMP) to avoid blast and radiation
damage
Or
 A consequence of man made pulse
generators designed to temporarily or
permanently take down control
systems
© Groupe de sécurité Gunnebo 30 mai 2018 page 56
Secure-IT
 It is possible to protect entire buildings
and installations which is fine for static
control centres.
 Installations can be developed deep
underground
 Rooms and even buildings lined and
shielded against EMP
This is expensive, often running into
hundreds of thousands euro
But this isn’t always possible within
Embassies, within Military engagement
control centres or Defence Contractors

The most widespread war weapon in the world
AK-47 became the favorite weapon of the terrorists :
 Designed in 1947 by the Soviet Mikhail Kalashnikov, the assault rifle of the same name became the
most widespread weapon in the world.
 Some estimate a Kalashnikov for 70 people in the world, a colossal figure difficult to verify due to the
large amount of unlicensed guns products.
 The secret of this success? This is an inexpensive weapon, simple, light, robust and accurate. AK-47 is
for a "soldier who did not graduate," said its inventor.
 The Kalashnikov is capable of firing up to 600 rounds / mn with a range of 200 meters
practice.
 Today, pirated versions are produced in countries like Bulgaria and China as well as in the former
Yugoslavia.
 The use of this weapon has become common especially in the areas of organized crime and small
rogue, because of its relatively affordable cost on the black market-sometimes several hundred euros
only- and apparently ease to get them.

 Compartmentalization is one of the key components in fire prevention in
buildings to:
 Confines the fire in a limited area
 Prevents the fire spreading
 Reduce risk for personal safety
 Makes the fire easier to extinguish
 Reduces damage
 It’s very important, therefore, that all points of access to compartmentalized
zones be protected by fire doors
 Compartmentalization standards are specified in the Buildings Technical Code
and the Fire Safety Regulations in Industrial Establishments in each country
 These codes clearly specify for any building construction or refurbishment
where doors are to be situated and their resistance level. These construction
requirements are mandatory

  • 8. © Groupe de sécurité Gunnebo 30 mai 2018 page 8 INCREASED SECURITY AWARENESS The threat from terrorism has led to more demand for security particularly at public and commercial sites. People are also more conscious about personal safety and the security of those around them. URBANISATION A growing proportion of the global population lives in cities. Both the size and population of urban areas are increasing. DEVELOPMENT OF INFRASTRUCTURES Urbanisation is leading to an expansion in inner-city infrastructures and a greater demand for better transportation networks. INCREASED WEALTH AND A HIGHER STANDARD OF LIVING Just as the global population is growing so is the middle class, particularly in fast developing countries. TECHNOLOGY-DRIVEN GROWTH AND CONNECTIVITY As the Internet of Things begins to create real value for customers, previously unconnected security products are becoming intelligent and provide access to data which can be utilised to improve business efficiencies. COMPLIANCE WITH LEGISLATION AND REGULATIONS As new regulations come into force to tackle security issues on a national, regional and international level, many sites have to increase the level of security to ensure compliance. • 55. © Groupe de sécurité Gunnebo 30 mai 2018 page 55 Reminder: What EMP is…  Electro Magnetic Pulse radiation (EMP)  This can occur naturally but the main concern is man made. Either  A consequence of a deliberate nuclear detonation conventionally (Nuclear EMP) or detonated at high altitude (High EMP) to avoid blast and radiation damage Or  A consequence of man made pulse generators designed to temporarily or permanently take down control systems
  • 56. © Groupe de sécurité Gunnebo 30 mai 2018 page 56 Secure-IT  It is possible to protect entire buildings and installations which is fine for static control centres.  Installations can be developed deep underground  Rooms and even buildings lined and shielded against EMP This is expensive, often running into hundreds of thousands euro But this isn’t always possible within Embassies, within Military engagement control centres or Defence Contractors holding confidential information

  • 76. © Groupe de sécurité Gunnebo 30 mai 2018 page 76 The most widespread war weapon in the world AK-47 became the favorite weapon of the terrorists :  Designed in 1947 by the Soviet Mikhail Kalashnikov, the assault rifle of the same name became the most widespread weapon in the world.  Some estimate a Kalashnikov for 70 people in the world, a colossal figure difficult to verify due to the large amount of unlicensed guns products.  The secret of this success? This is an inexpensive weapon, simple, light, robust and accurate. AK-47 is for a "soldier who did not graduate," said its inventor.  The Kalashnikov is capable of firing up to 600 rounds / mn with a range of 200 meters practice.  Today, pirated versions are produced in countries like Bulgaria and China as well as in the former Yugoslavia.  The use of this weapon has become common especially in the areas of organized crime and small rogue, because of its relatively affordable cost on the black market-sometimes several hundred euros only- and apparently ease to get them.
