Editor's Notes
South Central Regional Library Council (SCRLC) received funding from NN/LM MAR for a hybrid (virtual and in-person) wellness program for library workers to increase health information literacy and workplace wellness.
The South Central Regional Library Council (SCRLC) is one of nine Reference and Research Library Resources Councils comprising the NY 3Rs ofNew York State. The Council’s mission is to lead and advocate for member libraries by promoting learning, collaboration, and innovation. As a multi-type library consortium, SCRLC serves over 70 direct member libraries and library systems across 10,000 square miles in 14 counties. SCRLC members include 20 academic; 20 hospital; 20 corporate and non-profit libraries; 5 public libraries; 3 public library systems and their members; and 6 school library systems and their members. Altogether, SCRLC serves over 500 libraries; most are in rural locations and in some of the poorest counties of New York State.
At registration, we included a survey to help us plan the direction of our project. 62 individuals completed the survey with the majority coming from public libraries. 62 online registrants45 Kick Off registrants61 attended the Kick Off at 3 different locations.
When asked what information they would like addressed in the Wellness Webinars, the top 3 responses were stress management, exercise and nutriton/diet.
Number of people. Kick off was held in Ithaca at the TCPL. We displayed resources from NLM and gave copies of the book to participants to share with their libraries. Dr. Wansink is a very engaging speaker and he shared evidence-based information on eating behaviors.
Webinar Series is one of the tools we used to disseminate information.AFL is a 10 week, team program for tracking activity levels. The webinar familiarized participants, team captains and program leaders with the program features.RegistrationTrackingBonus pointsWe’ll discuss this more in a future slide
Lydia N Collins is the Consumer Health Coordinator for the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, Middle Atlantic Region (NN/LM MAR). She serves as the liaison to all public libraries in NY. Lydia has worked in academic, public and hospital library settings and serves as the liaison from NN/LM MAR to public libraries DE, NJ, NY & PA.
Director of the Sleep and Depression Lab, Ryerson University
With so much attention to new diets in the media, how do you know which ones will help you maintain a healthy weight? This webinar will cover the basic principles of a healthy diet, some popular diets in the media and how to decide whether they are right for you.
This is still an ongoing program but we have 9 teams of 41 participants from public libraries, a medical library, and a library council. There will be a survey at the end of the program but from personal experience I can say that I liked the online tracking component but that I would prefer to include a f2f component to help me stay motivated. The HLHC project was designed so that the tools complemented each other. So an AFL team could also have a f2f component if their host library projected the Wellness Webinars for their group.
