This presentation is a fairly complete cross section of trips we undertake for schools. It is meant to be a spring board to discussion on how your students can be engaged through experiential learning.

3. Mountainbikingasia.com was conceived in the fall of 1984 when
Tim Obendorf and a small band of adventures cycled from Hong Kong
to Shanghai. Since then we have specialized with bike and hiking tours
around Asia catering to individuals, families or schools.

• Experienced with and enjoy being around Young adults.

• First Aid Experience/Bike Mechanic and Hiking/Cycling Experience
• Local guides partner with our tour managers in service
• Local guides are bilingual English speakers and serve as our local
specialists. Their focus is on sharing cultural insight, environmental
issues, dealing with food and lodging issues.

5. • We maintain our own fleet of bikes in a variety of sizes.
• Vehicles used are inspected regularly
• Medical facilities have been identified in all locations of tours
• Risk Management and Assessments are regularly updated
• Regular scouting trips on proposed routes
• Skill training offered with groups pre trip
• Peanut oil or nuts, MSG and seafood have been requested to be off
all menus.
6. • All riding or hiking is in single file with our own staff and teachers
surrounding the group.
• We offer training sessions in Hong Kong to improve riding and/or
hiking skills
• All roads are researched and selected for low traffic and good surface.

• By Ferry to/from Kowloon to Kaiping
• We will understand more of China’s first
emigration to the West
• We will ride on amazing backroads and trailways
through villages and “back in time” places
• We will find out why this area is deemed a World
Heritage site.
• We may have opportunity to give a helping hand
to local farmers in their rice and peanut
production.

• Location/Activities: Undisclosed. Part of the
training is to learn to lose control over the
circumstances and learn to rely more on
each other.
• Camp structure: Teams of 5 participants +
2 staff per team. 2 Camp Parents (logistics)
(school teachers will assist staff)
All staff are experienced and qualified.
32. Hainan Island
• By flight to Haikou, N. Island
• Flight return from Sanya, S. Island
• Cycling 3-5 days approx. 250k max amongst Li Minority
regions – service in poorer schools – playground assembly
• 2-3 days working with Bright Connections School for the
handicapped – physio exercises and outings to the beach
• 5-8 days

38. … a Highlight of our trip will be having fun on the beach with the
Children and staff of Bright Connections Handicapped School in Sanya
as well as working in physical therapy exercises.
40. N.Guangdong Yao Minority Cycling
and Service
• By Coach to the middle of Guangdong Province r/t.
• Cycling or Hiking in the NW corner and the Yao minority
• We will help teach at a minority tutorial centre or serve at
a village Yao minority primary school installing
playground equipments
• Living amongst the Yao Minority Working with Go2serve
Foundation we will work with the North Guangdong
Model Farm alongside the Yao people. A project of
empowerment as well as service in poorer areas and
schools. Resource and Environment education is
incorporated in this time.
• 5-8 days
41. • We will start our cycling in the Jiu Long Crags area in the
middle of Guangdong province.
42. In this region we will visit a memorial to a refugee site as well as
have an opportunity to visit a local village school.
55. Guizhou Cycling or Hiking with
Service
• Flying Roundtrip into Guiyang, the capital of Guizhou
• A 2.5 hour trip each way from Guiyang Airport to the city
of Kaili on each end.
• Cycling or hiking amongst the Miao minority villages and
service at schools – village stays.
• Working with Zigen Foundation we will have opportunity
to help Miao minority children in very practical ways as
well as the elderly in home renovations.
• 5-8 days

57. Both groups Hiking or Cycling will have one night in Xijiang village, the
largest Miao village in the world.
63. We will live like the locals in some of the villages we will serve.
A once in a lifetime experience staying at Miao peoples homes, having
meals with them and listening to Miao folklore in song.

• Gao Yan village is one of the most poor Miao villages in LeiShan county
• 1,420 villagers with one primary school of 51 students

69. The town of Lijiang is a world heritage site. It is home to the Naxi
minority people. We will have opportunity to visit their villages and
help in an orphanage.
72. On our way to Shangrila we will hike into the Tiger Leaping Gorge
where the mighty Yangtze river is squeezed into a pressure chamber
just meters across.

• Flights to and from Hong Kong to Jiuzhaigou Airport at
3,400M.

86. Walking the Wild Wall
• By flight to Beijing
• By coach North to Hebei Province around 3 hours
• Day hikes of less than 10k/day nightly returning to a
village stay in a renovated school house
• Highly educational lectures by Wil Linsey
• 2 days working on conservation projects with villagers
around the wall area under the guidance of “International
Friends of the Great Wall”
• Train to the furthest East point of the wall and hiking to
Dragon’s head in Shanhaiguan.

100. Sabah is home to South East Asia’s highest mountain being Kinabalu.
It also has fascinating geothermal activity. The group will see this
mud volcano on our island hopping day.
