To Whom It May Concern,
Tim Marburger, our previous Director of Fundraising and Special Events
(later retitled “Director of Development and Marketing”), has asked me to
share my experience working with him. Tim was my supervisor from 2009
to 2015 at The Aliveness Project where I worked as a receptionist and
health coordinator.
I often remarked that Tim had the patience of “a saint” – in addition to other
employees and me, he was responsible for an ever-changing stream of
volunteers. In our chaotic environment, I am not sure how he managed to
get his own work done, but he somehow did; Tim is the kind of person to
put in the hours needed to get the job done. Working with him over the
years, I saw Tim manage some employees who struggled with serious
issues like chronic illness and addiction. He was infinitely patient and
always kind.
In all honesty, as a demanding perfectionist, I am not the easiest to manage
either. Tim worked to compromise when appropriate, and times when I was
flat-out wrong, he respectfully helped me come to an understanding. Tim
gave me a master class in how to handle people and situations with grace
and I am beyond thankful for his coaching. I have taken his motto of
“customer service” to heart in my own work.
Beyond being a great fundraiser, Tim was well-regarded by the people we
serve, our coworkers, volunteers, and donors. The work is important, but
connecting with people and working to keep everyone satisfied and invested
is the most lasting legacy, at least in our line of work. Tim is that caring
supervisor and colleague who will remember little details about your life
and genuinely want to know how you are doing.
Long story short, I enjoyed my time with Tim. He was a good boss and a
fair one. It was great to feel that someone was on my side and my advocate.
If you are looking for a professional to not just get the work done, but build
rapport, Tim is your candidate.
Sincerely,
Hanna Dorn
