2. I. HEALTH EDUCATION
How do we know Health Education
-It is technique, Method, Strategy.
-Health talk or Health messages is not Health
Education but how to talk and how to develop
health messages is Health Education.
-Health Education is creating chance to
promote health individually, collectively.
-Health Education aims changes in order to
promote health, quality of life.
3. II. WHAT ARE CHANGES AIMED
BY HEALTH EDUCATION
-Knowledge change – What are necessary to be known
or understood individually, collectively. e.g, People
need to know how to protect HIV.
-Attitude change- Some attitudes are harmful to health.
HIV is not only harmful but also many diseases can
give harm so no need to care HIV.
-Practice/Behaviour change- Some behavior can cause
sickness but some can promote health. E.g; smoking
causes diseases and walking can promote health.
*COMBI(Communication for Behaviour Impact) can
be applied effectively for some behavioural
changes.
4. III. HOW TO CHANGE
a. Knowledge change- Communication strategies
are to be applied.
*There can be chosen specific strategy for
communication according to your audience. E.g;
If mass, health talk; if group, discussion and if
individual, interpersonal communication can be
selected.
b. Attitude change- Case study, story telling,
drama, Role play, demonstration etc.
c. Behaviour change- Motivation, stimulation with
emotion, explanation of benefits, by force etc.
5. IV. UNDERSTANDING
BEHAVIOUR
Type of behaviour
-No need to practice, need to behave once
in life
-Need to behave sometimes / occasionally
-Need to behave frequently
-Need to behave everyday.
*Strategy for behaviour change
depends on type of behaviour.
6. V. DETERMINANTS OF
BEHAVIOR
Why do we behave like this
-There are mainly three factors of
determinants of
behaviour.
a. Predisposing factors – culture, religion,
norms,
Values, beliefs etc.
b. Enabling factors – Time, Money, Material,
Technique(know-how), Being convenience
etc.
c. Re-enforcement factors- Motivation,
training, Incentives etc.
7. VI. HEALTH EDUCATION ROLE
-Study on behavioural issues
-Developing communication strategy, message,
media channels etc.
-Production of IEC materials
-Raising community awareness regarding ……
