1. Good morning Mr. Hefter,
It is my pleasure to confirm that Thierry is performing above and beyond our expectations in his role as
an intern at the U.S. Consulate in Montreal. His video editing, writing, and photography skills have
proven to be quite valuable in the context of his position. One of the key daily tasks required of interns,
which he has done very well, is producing a social media report which details relevant discussions about
current events affecting the Canada-U.S. relationship. He responded quickly and adeptly to the fatal
shooting events in Ottawa on October 22, carefully monitoring social media in a crisis management
situation. His additional responsibilities include assisting with the management and execution of key
events hosted by the Consulate. For instance, he helped me to manage a 3-day, $8,000 Culinary
Diplomacy program, and also assisted my colleague with the logistics of a speaker program to bring
President Obama’s former special assistant, Reggie Love, to Montreal. Thanks in part to Thierry’s
contributions, both of these events were highly productive and well-received.
We have high expectations of our interns and in turn hope that they receive valuable experience that
will help them as they develop their careers. Thierry is gaining not only valuable administrative
experience working in an office atmosphere, but also has the opportunity to interact directly with
diplomats and participate in high-level meetings, gaining a broader understanding of international
relations and U.S. Public Policy. We are thankful to have him on our team and are confident he will be
successful in his future academic and professional endeavours.
