Dear Mr. Mhazo,
My name is Zinhle Dlamini, the Project Coordinator for the Community based Environment Mangement
Project funded by the European commission and World Vision Germany.
The specific objective of this project is Srengthening of capacities of communities in preventing land
degradation though trainings and catchment treatment using physical and biological means.
I have recieved corespondence from our Soil and Water Conservation facilitator on your proposal to visit
the communities we work with. You are mostly welcomed and I am sure there is more we can do together
in the communities. We work with 5 communities, but for now we will visit Mhawu community which is
one vibrant community. They are using locally available material to deal with land degardation, which we
encourage, not only because the project has serious financial challenges but also because we want to
promote independnecy and hence sustainability. They have collected about 2 tonnes of stones to make
waterways and for gabion work.
We have provided gabions for the community, we would like to make it cheaper. If there are ways of doing
it in a cheaper way, we are open to that.
We still have to train them on biological and Physical means of preventing land degradation, and this is
something we have to brief them on before any ground work, which I think will be possible on the deay of
visit, then they can have a hands on experience on what they will learn.
The major cause of the degradation is overstocking, and runn off water which needs to be diverted. we
hope to have time assess the area and identify possible remedies.
We are open to advise on the subject.
Again, thank you for your willingness to partners with us in helping the communities. I am sure this will go
a along way and there is something you are going to learn form the community.
