2. Why does this topic resonate with you?
As I was born in Kenya, the issue of clean water and sanitation is deeply
personal to me. I have witnessed the difficulties that people face in my
community and in other parts of the world when it comes to accessing clean
water and proper sanitation facilities. In many areas of Kenya, people have to
travel long distances to fetch water from contaminated sources, leading to
waterborne diseases and illnesses. Lack of proper sanitation facilities further
exacerbates the problem, as people are forced to use open defecation sites or
shared pit latrines, which also contributes to the spread of diseases.
3. How can your interest be applied locally?
There are several ways that I can apply my interest locally. One way is to get involved
with organizations and initiatives in my community that are working to improve access to
clean water and sanitation. This could include volunteering with a local charity that
provides clean water or building latrines, or joining a student group that advocates for
policies to improve access to clean water and sanitation in the community. Another way
to apply my interest locally is to raise awareness about the issue. I could organize an
event on campus or in the community to educate people about the importance of clean
water and sanitation, and the challenges that people in our community and around the
world face in accessing these basic necessities. By raising awareness and generating
support, we can build momentum for local initiatives and policies that improve access to
clean water and sanitation.
4. Where can you make the greatest contribution?
I can set up go fund me accounts to assist people or countries
that are in need of assistance that don't have access to clean
water. These go fund me accounts will go fully to them and i
can do that to begin with and if the foundation gets bigger and
bigger i can go on from there and expand to helping not just
people in africa, but people in other countries too.
5. Is there a feature on social media that we can
apply MDG6 to?
Yes, social media can be a powerful tool for raising awareness about the issue of
clean water and sanitation and engaging a broader audience in the effort to improve
access to these basic necessities. One feature of social media that can be uniquely
applied to this goal is the use of visual storytelling. Visual storytelling involves
using images, videos, and other multimedia to convey a narrative or message. With
social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, visual storytelling
can be used to capture and share compelling stories of people and communities that
lack access to clean water and sanitation. By sharing these stories and using visually
appealing content, social media can help to increase awareness of the issue and
generate support for initiatives that address it.
