Expository Narrative
Definition and Meaning
 A story or account of events, experiences, or recollections
that are often told in a sequence of written or spoken
words
 A first hand account on the portrayal of events or
experiences that enables the reader to create a clear
image of what is trying to be inferred by the
storyteller/speaker
Audience Type
 Many different audience examples can be used to
interpret a narrative. Everything from a comedy,
drama, tragedy, a personal experience, a certain
belief, and even a story about penguins trying to
survive in the Arctic fall under certain audience
preferences that a narrative can be based upon. In
this example, I will refer to the film “March of the
Penguins” and it’s narrator, Morgan Freeman.
 Freeman narrates this film with no regard to one
particular group of people, but rather, appeals to
the general public.
General Audience
Example
Audience Considerations
 The audience that this film is directed to ranges from
animal lovers, humanitarians, and even appeals to
children. It’s effective and subtle narration combines
both intrigue and a sustainability to keep the audience
informed of every detail that appears on screen at all
times.
 This form of narration, which appeals to the general
public, is one of the more popular forms since it can be
related to with ease and does not require a certain
audience to understand what message is trying to be
conveyed.
