2. What is a canyon?
Canyon: is a deep gorge, with typically a river
flowing through it
3. How is a canyon formed?
Canyons are formed when rivers erode the land
beneath the water and carry sediments. After
thousands and thousands of years the water
erodes the sediments and causes the river to get
deeper and wider. Even longer after they start to
form canyons.
4. The Grand Canyon
• The Grand Canyon is located in the state of
Arizona
• The Grand Canyon was formed at least 17 million
years ago by the Colorado River
• The highest point of the canyon can reach over
6,00 feet tall
• There are several activities one can do around
and in the canyon, like rafting, hiking, and
horseback riding
5. Environmental Effects
• When the Grand Canyon was being formed
millions of years ago, it divided the ecosystems
into two different ones
• Over time this will cause a division between the
two, and will effect the way animals will develop
• Also the ecosystem on the bottom of the canyon
will be different then on the top due to the
climate change and elevate change
