Social Norms
Material traits of racial, religious and social group
3. Where can we find culture?
Everywhere! Culture makes up a large part of our day to day life. Cultural
differences include differences in:
Food
Clothes
Religious
Language
4. Hidden Culture
However, these thing are just top of the iceberg- they are parts of
culture we can see. There are many parts of culture, that aren’t
visible; like most of an iceberg. These include:
Work
Importance of Time
Religious
Beliefs
5. Hidden Culture
Values
Nature of friendships
Because these differences aren’t visible they are very difficult to
communicate and understand.
But they are very important because they shape the parts of
culture we can see.
6. Why is it important?
Culture influences many parts of peoples lives including: food,
dress, opinions, music, buildings, manners, social interaction,
language.
We need to understand each others cultural backgrounds to make
sense of different view points and opinions.
Cultural Awareness is important in creating cross cultural
understanding and acceptance. Cultural Awareness can give us a
better understanding of our own culture.
