In what ways does your media product use 1
1. In what ways does your media product use, develop,
challenge forms and conventions of real media
product?
2. FRAME ONE-
Frame one shows the main protagonist Sasha walking through an empty
corridor at her school. A black and white effect was added after filming to
give the thriller scene an almost melancholy atmosphere.
We deliberately filmed the shot at side angle to confuse the audience. The
audience would ask themselves questions such as “why is it at the angle?”
“Where is the main protagonist going?”.
This shot conforms to conventions of a thriller because it is misleading; It
denotes the character walking sideways but In fact the connotation is that
she is walking into her “death”.
FRAME TWO-
Frame two shows the main protagonist Sasha covering her face in fear. We
used the floating bubbles effect to empathise her facial expressions. This
allows the viewer to clearly see her facial expression clearly.
The black background conforms to the conventions of a thriller because it is
a dark colour. The black background also connotes to the idea that
something may be lurking in the shadows.
FRAME THREE-
Frame three shows are production logo that we made. We decided to have
the background red because this connotes blood, fear and anger. It is up to
the viewer to decide.
Our Production Company is “Brownin’ Studios”, they work hand in hand
with Metrodome distribution. Brownin studios is an ethnic production
company that allows young people (16-25) to produce their own short
films.
We decided to use a lion as a main attraction because it represents pride
this does not conform to the conventions of a thriller.
3. FRAME FOUR-
Frame four shows are title sequence. We used a black background because
not only does that bring out the white writing the background colour
conforms to the conventions of a thriller.
In our opening we made are opening credits appear one after each other in
a flash to represent that we all had an equal weight in producing the thriller
opening.
FRAME FIVE-
Frame five shows a dripping tap, this makes the audience ask several
questions such as ‘why is the tap dripping?’, ‘is running water significant in
this thriller?’. This conforms to the conventions of a thriller because it s
leaving the audience confused.
We also decided to have a ‘recording’ effect on the tap scene to highlight
the significance of the running water in the thriller. It also alludes to the idea
that the mysterious ‘entity’ is watching the tap.
FRAME SIX-
Frame six shows Sasha’s work with ‘BE’ on it, we deliberately done this so
that the audience would assume that a mysterious entity was writing
beware on her work.
The word followed is also underlined this alludes to the idea that there are
two mysterious beings, a good and a bad one. The good one was warning
her of the bad being.
The fact that the warning is written in red conforms to the typical
conventions of a thriller. In most thrillers wall warnings are written in red,
this connotes the idea of blood.
4. FRAME SEVEN-
Frame seven shows a mysterious girl who the audience would assume to be
a victim of the entity laying on the floor. The audience will be un aware if it
is Sasha or another female in the thriller.
We deliberately filmed this shot in low-key lighting because we wanted to
conceal the identity of the girl. This would allow the audience to want to
watch me because they would want to find out who the supposedly dead
person is.
Concealing someone’s identity conforms to the convention of a thriller. It
has been done in thriller opening such as Scream and Seven.
FRAME EIGHT-
Frame eight shows a long shot two way shot of Sasha. One of the frames
shows Sasha running through the door and falling over due to impact of her
speed. The other frame shows Sasha looking shifty while walking though the
door.
The reason why we done a two framed shot is because this is typical in
anime openings, we got most of are inspirations from anime’s which is why
thought it would be a good idea if we used it in our opening as well.
FRAME NINE-
Frame nine shows are title. We named our thriller ‘Another’ because it
represents another being or entity but no one knows who or what it is,
which is the main plot of our film.
We decided to have a dripping effect because tis represents blood, this then
alludes to the idea that someone is going to get hurt or die in our thriller,
this allow the audience to have pre assumptions about what is going to
happen based on the title.
