2. There are many assessments taken in kindergarten.
The three main assessments for Iberia Parish are:
• Developing Skills Checklist (DSC)
• Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy (DIBELS Next)
• Pre/Post Math Assessment District test
3. Developing Skills Checklist (DSC)
• This test is commonly used throughout the United States to test
students for kindergarten readiness. The test administered
individually and takes approximately 30-40 mins. The test consists
of:
• Math and Language Skills (Letters and number recognition, counting, blending
sounds)
• Motor Skills (Fine and Gross) (Writing one’s name, writing a message, draw a self
portrait, and cutting lines with scissors)
• Visual Skills (Finding pictures)
• Auditory and Memory Skills (Recalling names and numbers)
4. Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS-Next)
DIBELS Next is administered Fall, Winter, and Spring. Each test is
administered for one minute. DIBELS Next test assesses:
• Letter Naming ( Naming the letters
without saying the letter sounds).
• Phoneme Segmentation- (Break down
words into individual sounds. For
example the word cat is broken into
three sounds /k/ /a/ /t/
• First Sound fluency (First sound a
person hears in a word. For example
in cat is /k/,
• Nonsense words (For example bim, voj,
and ij) Nonsense words are words that
does not make sense. It is used to help
decode words.
5. District Math Assessment
The District Math Assessment is administered in August and April of the school
year. The math assessment consists of:
• Counting to 100
• Writing numbers to 20
• Recognizing 2d and 3d shapes
• Measurement
• Addition and Subtraction
6. Student Learning Target (SLTs)
Student Learning Targets (SLTs) consists of the goals teachers must
meet at the end of the school year. The goals help guide the teachers
throughout the year. SLTs are based on the assessments that are
taken by the students at the beginning of the school year.
