2. Examination Reforms
• Examination is the important focal point in education
system.
• Parents and teachers and educationist expressing
their opinion about examination reforms.
Important reasons are following to reform the present
system of examination.
3. Existing problems in examination
• No Reliable system of examination
• No Transparency in exam system
• Introduce the grading system
• No Quality of question paper- testing
memory only not a higher order skills.
• Assess the student at the end of the year
• Cognitive abilities alone are evaluated.
4. Recommendation made on
examination and evaluation in
mudaliar report
• Remove the above defects and improve
the quality of secondary education,
23/09/1952.
• Govt. of India appointed a Education
commission Under the chairmanship of
• A.L Mudaliar and they submit the
reports of secondary education in 1954.

• Reduce the external examination & only one public
exam should conduct at the year end.
• Added more number of objective type question and
reduce the essay type question in the exam pattern
• Using grades instead of numerical marks.
• Maintain the cumulative records.

examination.
6. Kothari commission report
• This commission set up an education commission
examine the all issues and problems from primary to
higher education.
• Dr. D S kothari was the chairman of this commission
in 1964.
• He was former chairman of UGC
7. Recommendations
• Improve the written exam system so that become
valid and reliable measure of achievement.
• To develop Tools and techniques for those important
aspects of students growth can not measure by the
written examination.
8. At lower primary stage
• Desirable to treat I to iv std. as single
ungraded unit
• Students are different hailing background,
so allow to them to own pace.
• Evaluation to observe their basic skills and
attitude. It should be used by the teacher
in planned and systematic manner.
9. At higher primary level IV to VII
• Addition to written examination, oral test given some
weightage for oral test and it should be a part of
internal examination.
• Introduce cumulative records , conducting common
examination at the end of the year.
• Provision of certificate for the primary students along
with cumulative record.
• Special test conduct for the award of scholarship and
certificate of merit for identify the talent.
10. At secondary stage
• External examination should be improve
and publish the result as soon as possible.
• Certification of students by board of
examination should mention the subjects
secured marks and do not mention the
remark as pass or fail.
• Students permitted to appear re
examination.
11. • Few selected schools should be given the
freedom of assessing their students and
holding their examination at the end of
class X, which will consider and as equal
examination of state board.
• Issuing the certificate of internal
assessment as contain in the cumulative
record. Its should be attached to the one
given by the stateboard.
12. • Internal assessment by schools should
comprehensive in all aspects of students
growth. Exams should be descriptive and
quantitative aspect.
• Using rating scale , interest inventory and
aptitude test for internal assessment and
this marks should be mentioned in the
mark sheet.
• Conducting two public examination at the
end of X & XII.

function as state board of school
education with enhance power and
function.
• National board of school education deals
with evaluation at central level.
14. NPE-1986
• Assessment is the one of the integral part of learning
and teaching. Examination adopted to bring the
quality in education.
• Assessment should be valid and reliable and using a
powerful tool for improving teaching and learning.

• To de- emphasis of memorization
• Assess the students by CCE pattern.
• Effective use of the evaluation process by
student, teachers and parents.
• Improvement to conduct examination.
• Introduce new method of teaching
• Introduction of semester pattern
• Use of grades in place of marks.

constructed in package.
