Sentence is a basic in communication. Do not
hope much to be fluent in communication if you
don’t understand it. Sentence brings a message.
The message can only be understood if it is
expressed with correct structure.
Sentence is arranged from some words (words
combination). It can be a sentence if it is fulfilled
with some parts: Subject, Predicate
If both parts can’t be fulfilled, so it is only a
phrase

A phrase is only a group of words
For example: A young girl
The existence of OBJECT depends on the verb
(predicate) if the predicate is transitive verb so it
will required
For example: She reads the book
But if the predicate is intransitive verb so it will
not require an object
For example: She sit on the chair
As the complement it sometime needs an adverb

• woman : a word
• the woman : a group of words (phrase)
• The beautiful woman : a group of words (phrase)
• The beautiful woman works at the bank : a clause / sentence

It is a verb
Can be a word, phrase
Can’t be in the form of clause
7. C. OBJECT
It is a noun
Can be a word, phrase
Can be in the form of clause
8. D. ADVERB
It is an adverb
Can be a word, phrase
Can be in the form of clause
9. TYPES OF SENTENCE
1. Simple Sentence (only one clause)
2. Compound Sentence
- it consists of 2 clauses combined with conjunction: and,
but, or, as well as
- the combined parts can be a subject, predicate, or object
- because some parts are combined, so some parts are
omitted
3. Complex Sentence
- it consists of 2 clauses combined with conjunction: after,
before, as soon as, because, etc or relative pronouns: who,
which, where, that
It consist of main clause and sub clause
4. Compound Complex Sentence
- It consists of compound sentence + sub clause
