2. INTRODUCTION
• Susan Brunstrum established Sweet Peas Design in Libertyville,
Illinois, more than 16 years ago. The interior design firm has since
relocated to Chicago and now goes by Studio Brunstrum. Susan
Brunstrum and her team provide clients with a range of quality
services, from interior design to architectural support.
The studio’s projects typically emphasize simplification, though the
design team is capable of meeting a variety of client needs. For
instance, while renovating a Chicago condominium, the firm
worked toward creating a space that evoked a sense of the circle
of life. The project began with updates to the lighting system and a
darker finish for the hardwood floors. Initial steps also included
removing outdated door hardware and detailing the condo’s
ceilings with dark gray crown molding.

3. STUDIO BRUNSTRUM
• The kitchen and bathroom, meanwhile, were not only treated to
new paint and modern countertops, but all the cabinetry was
renovated. The circle of life theme entered into the condo’s design
via circular cabinet trim, penny round tile accents, and a round
ceiling soffit featured prominently over the dining space. Finally, a
neutral palette allowed the space to maintain an austere yet
relaxed atmosphere, in contrast to the bustling city nine stories
below.
The design team’s efforts were rewarded with an ASID Illinois
Design Excellence Award, as well as a spread in Modern Luxury
