This study evaluated polymorphisms in the IL8 and IL16 genes in 200 patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and 50 non-ACS patients from May 2012 to August 2016 at a hospital in Portugal. The researchers investigated the association between single nucleotide polymorphisms in the IL8 and IL16 genes and the risk of developing ACS. They found an important role for SNPs in the IL16 gene, with the G allele possibly being associated with a decreased risk of ACS. No intervention was performed as part of this study.
