STRUCTURE OF NEPHRON
RENAL TUBULE
It is a double walled cup-like sac at the beginning of the
tubular component of a nephron in the mammalian kidney
that performs the first step in the filtration of blood to form
urine. A glomerulus is enclosed in the sac.

Cortical nephrons Juxtamedullary
They occur in all vertebrates. They occur only in birds and mammals
Located in the outer part of the renal cortex. Located close to the renal medulla.
Have a short loop of Henle, which penetrates
only the outer renal medulla.
Have a long loop of Henle extending
deep into the renal medulla.
The vasa recta is short or absent. The vasa recta is long.
Major part of the regulatory and excretory
functions of the human body is carried out by
the cortical nephrons.
These juxtamedullary nephrons
concentrate or dilute urine

URINE FORMATION: 1.GLOMERULAR/ULTRA FILTRATION
Glomerular filtration is the first step in making urine. It is the process that the kidneys use to
filter excess fluid and waste products out of the blood into the urine collecting tubules of the
kidney, so they may be eliminated from your body.

Due to the pressure, the liquid part of the blood which filters out
from the glomerulus passes into the Bowman's capsule. This
filtration under extraordinary force is called ultrafiltration.
URINE FORMATION: 1.GLOMERULAR FILTRATION
The GFR is influenced by hydrostatic pressure of the blood in
the afferent(Pb) and is resisted by osmotic pressure(Po) of the
protein of the blood of glomerulus and Hydrostatic pressure of
filtrate in the lumen(Pc) and Hydrostatic pressure of interstitial
fluid( Pi)
GFR= Pb-(Po+Pc+Pi)

ROLE OF LUNGS , LIVER AND SKIN IN EXCRETION
1.LUNGS: CO2 and H2O.
2.LIVER: Secretes bile-containing substances like bilirubin, biliverdin, cholesterol,
degraded steroid hormones, vitamins and drugs. Most of these substances ultimately
pass out along with digestive wastes.
3.Sebaceous glands :eliminate certain substances like sterols, hydrocarbons and waxes
through sebum. This secretion provides a protective oily covering for the skin.
4. SALIVA: Small amounts of nitrogenous wastes could be eliminated.
5. Sweat produced by the sweat glands is a watery fluid containing NaCl, small amounts of urea,
lactic
acid, etc.
