- Class Number: Part of call number that represents the subject classification of the item using a classification scheme like Dewey Decimal.
- Book Number: Unique number assigned sequentially to identify each item received.
- Accession Number: Unique number assigned sequentially to each item received and processed into the collection.
- Barcode: Unique machine-readable representation of an item's call number or other identifier, allows for scanning and automated check-in/check-out.
