Epilepsy
1. Suitable for people with either biology background or
computer science and mathematical background
2. WHAT IS EPILEPSY?
Synchronization of brain regions that spreads to other regions.
Need not be motor lobe synchronization, which manifests in seizure.
Can be induced even by alcohol withdrawal in alcoholics.
Seizures induce occurrence of further seizures, so if epilepsy and epileptic
seizures can be stopped, in addition to helping the patient at that
moment, one is preventing further progress of the disease.
3. CAN EPILEPSY BE PREDICTED?
Yes
People are already doing it.
Research material on it (from June 10th to June 20th)
4. WHY SHOULD WE JUMP IN THE RACE?
Much success only with temporal lobe epilepsy.
People married to a technique.
5. WHAT WOULD WE DO DIFFERENT?
Set logic gate of OR for various time series analysis tools, develop new
hybrid approaches.
Push the envelope of detection further back in time (yes, back can be good
)
Explore kinds of epilepsies that have been untouched.
6. TIMELINE
Research material on previous epilepsy prediction (from June 10th to June
20th)
Explore epilepsy databases (I know some of you have already done that but
for others June 20th to June 25th)
Learn specific time series analysis tools (June 10th to July 10th). You can
learn as many tools as you wish, say ARCH, GARCH, ARIMA, Wavelet
analysis, soft computing approaches such as evolutionary algorithms
and ANNs but you have to be really good at at least one of them. Based
on technique we divide teams.
Complete analysis by July 31st
7. TIMELINE (CONTD.)
Converge different analysis approaches. August 1st to 15th
Make an online tool. August 1st to August 15th (in parallel)
Write paper by end of August
8. CAN EPILEPSY PREDICTION TEAM WORK ON
OTHER THINGS?
If you are a person looking at time-series analysis, you can work on other
applications of time-series as well.
