THE FUTURE GEOSCIENTIST
What will be demanded of the “new” Geoscientists ?
Today’s Challenge – Tomorrow’s Goal
!  Challenge
!  Creating a better representation of sub-surface geology prior to, during and post-drilling of wells
!  More complex Geology require more precise and detailed data to evaluate increasingly complex
reservoir models
!  Need for more accurate reservoir and fluid composition data to reduce operational risks and minimize
costs
!  Technology limits us today as there is still a too high risk on geological models, and
!  There is still not a 1:1 relationship between seismic, well, geological models, and flow simulation models
!  Mature areas require more accurate data in order to reduce errors in models used by geoscientists and
engineers to plan production and potential “new” reservoirs in existing discoveries and to improve
Recovery and understand drainage patterns.
!  More detailed Time-laps technology, both in acoustic and physical domains is required.
!  Goal
!  Create a Good geological model to reduce risks in resource assessments and drilling failures.
!  Closer to 1:1 relationship between acoustic and physical domains and within the various model
environments
!  Be able to create better recovery from mature fields/ areas and discover new opportunities within
existing discoveries to increase reserve and resource bases
