Waste Management
Provide waste surveillance to keep an inventory of what’s on board and ensure that waste
doesn’t get disposed of improperly and lead to fines.
Identify waste type and find proper disposal procedure.
Using procedure to identify proper labels and containers the waste needs.
Coordinate with the crane crew to ensure that waste is properly loaded and that the
required documentation accompanies the shipment.
Keep track of Hazardous Waste Manifest by filing in the unified filing system and posting
online in SharePoint per USCG requirement.
Perform NORMsurveys on piping, valves, and equipment to identify radiation and
ensure that proper procedures are followed with shipment and handling.
Create backhauls and requests to have waste containers sent in or to have the sent out.
Take samples and send in to labs to identify waste characteristics that would deem the
waste as DOT regulated.
Create waste data sheets if proper procedure cannot be found or if the procedure calls for
it.
Rounds
Perform HSE observations on work groups and give feedback on findings.
Ask questions to understand the work groups reasoning to identify procedural issues the
work groups may be experiencing.
Raise worker concerns with members of the leadership team to get a conversation
started to possibly improve procedures.
Look for unsafe conditions and write hazard ids when these conditions are identified.
Perform weekly emergency escape route walks to ensure that all exits and emergency are
clear and ready for use.
Audits
Perform local audits on different HSE focus areas to identify gaps in compliance and
areas needing improvement.
Perform yearly MSDS audit which entails making an inventory of all chemicals on board
and comparing to what is in the MSDS database. I then locate missing MSDS and ensure
they are included in our database.
Prepared training material and prepared work groups for SEMS audit.
Perform monthly fall protection inspections to ensure fall protection is accounted for
and in good working condition.
MOC/Safe Work Plans
Review MOCs and Safe Work Plans to provide feedback on HSE concerns that may not
have been addressed.
2. Incidents
Collect data from involved parties when incidents occur.
Use information to write incident report drafts to get approved by leadership once the
involved party confirms it’s accuracy.
Perform investigations to determine the immediate and underlying causes of incidents
so that effective corrective actions can be implemented to prevent future occurrences.
Take pictures and create learning bulletins and serious incident reviews that can be
shared with other assets to aid in preventing similar incidents.
Create action items to ensure that corrective actions are followed through on.
Keep track of incidents that are happening on other assets and share the learnings aid in
prevention of similar incidents.
Advising on the steps that need to be taken and the regulatory contacts that need to be
made when medical emergencies or spills happen.
Report out on incidents and HSE issues/learnings that have taken place at Brutus during
weekly HSE network call-ins
Orders
Order waste containers and safety related items.
Arrange for HSE meters to be sent in for recalibration.
Training
Provide training to member of the waste management team.
Provide required training as needed.
Create and present powerpoint presentations to train workers in hazard mitigation in
areas that are trending.
Put together HSE data slides to present at One Shell Square’s Monthly Business Review
for Brutus.
Administrative Skills
Create HSE spreadsheets to track HSE exposures which are used to show leadership
topics that need further training.
Enter HSE data on weekly OIMreports.
Put together annual safety plans to show the past year’s HSE performance and set goals
for the upcoming year.
Report out on trending hazards and recent incidents during conference call-ins.
Incident Command System
Serve in the Safety Advisor role during ICS events/drills to take into consideration
weather conditions and site hazards unique to that area when determining staging areas
for response teams.
