2. EnergySolutions/ Hematite Decommissioning Project (HDP)
09/2011-08/2012
Junior Health Physics Technician
Operated the Gardian III Box counter, which is a 6 detector system utilizing a
combination of High Purity Germanium detectors (HPGe), Genie 2000, In Situ Object
Counting Software (ISOCS) and Non Destructive Assay (NDA 2000) in an
EnergySolutions, LLC configuration called the GARDIAN III Box Counter. This system
is used to detect, quantify, and qualify gamma emitting isotopes of interest at the
decommissioning of the Westinghouse Hematite Decommissioning Project (HDP). Daily
counting routines including daily QA source checks, QA background checks, QA
environmental long background counts, soil assays, and energy calibrations as needed
and required. Daily counting methodologies based upon HDP & EnergySolutions site
process flow procedure for process and control of waste material for reuse and waste
shipment.
EnergySolutions/ Lawrence Livermore National Lab Site 300
06/2011-09/2011
Junior Health Physics Technician
Performed low level gamma surveys using FIDLER detectors designed in the RemCAT
specifically for the detection of low energy gamma emissions (depleted uranium) at the
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). Performed mechanical maintenance
as needed, as well as design testing of the RemCAT and GPS Backpack systems.
Programmed Ludlum 2350-1 instruments for appropriate field settings for
instrumentation. Perform radiological surveys in compliance with EnergySolutions and
LLNL Site Procedures. Instructed site personnel in regards to safe radiological work
practices and use of the RemCAT to include maintenance and repair. Performed daily
instrument and detector response checks using field check sources. Communicated
sample analysis to project management and assisted in determining necessary corrective
actions and compliance. Monitored the transport and packaging of radioactive materials
for disposal.
