๏ต The activities here indicates the sequential steps and process to be
carried out from the beginning to the end of the project completion
along with the fulfillment of the standards and the time required
for each activity. Some of the major activities performed are
marking ,form work, reinforcement foundation(raft),concreting,
masonry, plastering, painting and other finishing works with
different standards and textures.

โข Site marking is one of the starting point of your construction.
โข In this activity your Engineer and Masonry vendor will identify pillar
placements.
โข Once column placement is identified based on soil condition earth work will
start.
โข Engineer will mark the area for the foundation. Earth workers will dig
marked area
โข Depending on soil condition depth of excavation will vary.
โข Some people perform pooja before starting this marking.

METER LINE MARKING
โข One meter line is a line drawn on the column/masonry structure .
โข This one meter line is marked with reference to the RL of the base.
โข The meter line marking is done to get accuracy in height dimensions and for easy finishing and also for
shuttering purpose.
Fig. 2-shows the height markings along with their RL values.
10. FORMWORK (SHUTTERING)
๏ง Formwork in concrete construction is used as a mould for a structure in
which fresh concrete is poured only to harden subsequently. Types of
formwork for concrete construction depends on formwork material and
type of structural element.
๏ง The construction of formwork takes time and involves expenditure up to
20 to 25% of the cost of the structure or even more.
๏ง Timber is the most common material used for formwork. The
disadvantage with timber formwork is that it will warp, swell and shrink.

12. REINFORCEMENT
โข Reinforcement is the process of providing the steel bars in combination
with the plain cement concrete to make it as a reinforced cement concrete.
โข Reinforced cement concrete are preferred over plain cement concrete
because steel bars used in reinforced cement concreting will provide more
strength and stability to the building structures.
โข The design of laying of bars is being carried out according to the
plan/design .Bar bending schedule is being done for designing of bars
layout and length , by preparing the bar bending schedule of the preferred
plan the amount and quantity of scrap can be reduced and hence the cost of
steel is reduced. 12

13. CONCRETING
๏ง Concrete is a construction material made from a mixture of cement,
aggregate (sand or gravel), water and sometimes admixtures in required
proportions.
๏ง STEPS IN CONCRETING:
i. Batching
ii. Mixing
iii. Transportation
iv. Compaction

14. BATCHING
๏ง The process of measuring different concrete materials such as cement,
coarse aggregate, sand, water for the making of concrete is known as
batching.
๏ง Batching can be done in two different ways.
i. Volume Batching.
ii. Weight Batching.

15. VOLUME BATCHING
๏ง In volume batching the measurements of concrete materials are taken by
volume & On the other hand the measurements are taken by weight in
weight batching.
๏ง It could not be convenient of measuring the solid materials in terms of
volume method hence a forma box is being prepared of dimensions
305mmX305mmX380mm.
๏ง Therefore all the materials required are being batched in required ratio by
using forma box.

17. MIXING

โข In this process, all the materials
are thoroughly mixed in required
proportions until the paste shows
uniform color and consistency.
Hand mixing and machine mixing
are the two different methods of
mixing.
โข Note: To achieve optimum quality
the materials should be mixed first
in dry condition and then in wet

18. TRANSPORTATION
๏ง When the mixing is done properly the freshly made concrete is then
transported to the construction site, this process is known as
transportation. After that, the concrete is correctly placed on the
formworks. Concrete can be transported to the site location in two ways
Manual Transportation and Mechanical Transportation.
๏ง For large area of concreting structures the concrete is being prepared
RMC plants with required grades and proportions and then it is being
transported by concrete mixing trucks.

20. COMPACTION

โข Compaction is the process in which
the air bubbles are eliminated from
the freshly placed concrete. It is
required to increase the ultimate
strength of concrete by enhancing
the bond with reinforcement.
21. CURING
๏ง Curing is the process in which the concrete keeps its moisture for a certain time
period to complete the hydration process. Curing should be done properly to increase
the strength of concrete.

23. CONCLUSION
๏ง The internship is a bridge between the theoretical knowledge and the practical knowledge .
๏ง Since we students took the internship session in RS CONSTRUCTION, we got an opportunity to
work in different parts of construction work which helps us to gain more knowledge.
๏ง This program played an important role to break the conventional thought that field works can be only
implemented by students who hold a degree or people who have an experience in building
construction.
๏ง We were able to acquire a high level of confidence to deal with problems that arise in a building
construction.
๏ง The engineers helped us in understanding the execution of the plan to the field, column work ,
shuttering work , bar bending schedule , detailing of the building.
๏ง They also helped us to understand the structural plan of the site, architectural plan , plumbing plan ,
electrical plan of the site
๏ง Finally we thank all the engineers, project managers , vice president the RS CONSTRUCTION for
giving this opportunity. 23
