2. THE CHARACTERS
3 male pigeons – Bert, Ralph and Spencer
6 clouds – Sarah, Lia, Rebecca, Ryan, Ben, George
Aeroplane - Ariana
Sun and Moon – Yellow and Blue
6. BERT
Bert is intellectually
challenged so needs help
from Ralph and Spencer to
get through everyday life.
During the film he gets
separated from the trio and
learns how to cope on his
own. He has many comical
moments throughout in
contrast to some more
serious scenes. David
Walliams is the voice of
Bert as his voice is of a
simple nature.
7. RALPH
Ralph is the child of the
trio. He is very immature
and needs a lot of looking
after as he can get
confused easily. He likes to
cause trouble and often is
told off by Ariana the
aeroplane. Throughout the
film he faces a lot of
problems however with the
help of his friends he
overcomes them. Alan Carr
is the voice of Ralph as he
has a cheeky, high-pitched
and comical voice that suits
8. SPENCER
Spencer is different from the
other pigeons. He is much more
mature and acts as the adult of
the group, although he does love
to have fun with the others.
Spencer comes from Chelsea so
he gets taunted by the others for
being ‘posh’. He was separated
from his flock when he was
younger and when he found Bert
and Ralph he knew he had found
his new brothers. Spencer is
played by Colin Firth as his voice
suits the style of Spencer.
Spencer should be serious and
sometimes moody however he
knows how to have fun.
9. TARGET AUDIENCE AND GENRE
The genre of the film is a comedy animation and the target audience
is under 5’s. The film we are creating will be suitable as it is an
animation with the theme of nature and the sky. It has many
characters with different personalities which show younger children
that all people are different. The film has an underlying moral which
will be told by Ariana the Aeroplane. This will appeal to the parents of
the children as they will want there to be a moral basis in the film so
that it is educational yet fun. There will be a comedy aspect shown
throughout the film through individual characters which will further
attract younger children. The film also encourages a wider
imagination as there are many characters in the film that talk but in
real life do not.
This will attract customers as it will show the film to be funny,
educational and imaginative. Our primary customer base are the
10. MOOD BOARD
We are basing our film off of other animated films. We have taken
inspiration from films such as:
Finding Nemo
Despicable Me
Inside Out
Spongebob Squarepants
Monster’s Inc
We have taken inspiration from these films realising that they all carry
a theme throughout so we decided to include a theme in our film.
11. FILM
SYNOPSIS
After a torrential storm hits, the
trio of pigeons are left in turmoil
as one of the three is separated
from the group. Will he cope on
his own? Will he return? The
remaining two venture across the
vast sky in order to rescue their
stranded friend.
Individuality
The film we have created is different from other animated films as it includes major
Hollywood stars which will allow people to feel instantly familiar with their voices and
therefore the film will immediately be well received. Additionally the animation takes
place mostly in the sky so there isn’t an aspect of human influence at all throughout
the film. These traits lead to the image of individuality in the film as they are rarely
done.
12. OPENING SCENE
Three pigeons flap about in the midst of the blue sky surrounded by their
friends….the clouds. They're cracking jokes, Ralph is being silly and
Spencer is in one of his moods. Quickly the peace is destroyed when a row
breaks out, a common occurrence, and Ariana the aeroplane shares her
many words of wisdom. In the meantime, Bert is oblivious to what is going
on and continues to be off in his own world. Whilst this is happening news
that a brewing storm is heading south towards the hometown of the trio is
heard.
13. MUSIC: SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN
From the opening lyrics of the song we can see the relevance in the song in contrast
to our film, with the characters being referred to in the song. Singin’ in the rain also
has a happy feel and as our target audience is Under 5’s it needs to be suitable for
the upbeat and cheerful production. Therefore the choice of this song fits the
conventions of our film and is the reason why it is our opening song.
I'm singin' in the
rain
Just singin' in the
rain
What a glorious
feelin'
I'm happy again.
I'm laughing at
clouds.
So dark up above
14. MUSIC: THE SUN WILL COME
OUT TOMORROW
The sun will come out tomorrow
Bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow
There'll be sun
Just thinkin' about tomorrow
Clears away the cobwebs and the sorrow
'til there's none
When I'm stuck with a day that's grey and
lonely
I just stick up my chin and grin and say, oh
The sun will come out tomorrow
So you gotta hang on
'til tomorrow, come what may!
Tomorrow, tomorrow, I love ya, tomorrow
You're always a day away!
When I'm stuck with a day that's grey and
lonely
I just stick up my chin and grin and say oh
The sun will come out tomorrow
So you got to hang on 'til tomorrow, come
what may!
Tomorrow, tomorrow, I love you tomorrow
You're only a day away
The Sun will come out tomorrow is a suitable
choice of music because the audience will gain
hope that stranded bird will break through the
clouds and the Equilibrium will be restored. Also
it gives meaning in the literal sense of the storm
ending and the sun coming out again.
The vocals are from a young girl which also
allows the children viewing the film to feel
comfortable as the tone of voice is one they can
relate to.
15. MARKETING
To market the film we shall create a film poster with the background
a pale blue representing the colour of the sky but also peace and
being free which interlinks with the birds’ lives. The three main
characters will be further forward than the others and centred to
show their status in the film and they will also be reflecting their
individual personalities. Spencer’s body language will be turned
slightly away from the others in order to show his tendency to
disagree with them. Ralph will be pushing Bert jokingly to reflect his
playful nature. Bert will look confused yet happy therefore showing
his naïve side. The clouds will be in the background looking relatively
normal and not significant however they will have a small smile to
show they are involved however keeping it as a surprise for the
audience. There will be a lighting bolt coming from a grey toned
cloud reflecting their impending doom.
The film poster will hint towards the film synopsis however still
shadowing the disruption of equilibrium that will come. This will
