Lesson Plan is a teacher’s mental and emotional
visualization of class room activities.
A lesson plan is a blue print, a guide map, a creative piece
of work and the chart for class room teaching in one period
of 45 minutes duration. It is a systematic approach for the
development of concepts, skills, understanding etc.
Characteristics of an Effective
Lesson Plan
 Include clearly mentioned instructional objectives.
 Include motivational techniques.
 Include evaluation techniques.
 Include student centred activities
 Anticipate pupil’s difficulties in question
 Include relevant home assignment
 Provide opportunity to practice skills
 Provide proper time allocation
 Provide for individual differences
Types of Lesson Plan
The lesson plans may be classified into three categories on
the basis of learning objectives

Bases of Lesson Plan
A lesson plan is based on the following theoretical
assumptions:
1. Preliminary knowledge and abilities required
2. Steps followed in writing lesson plan
3. Evaluation of lesson plan
Types of Lesson plan
Lesson plan related to knowledge:
- knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis and
synthesis objectives are achieved by this plan; the main
emphasis is given on presentation of content
Lesson plans related to Appreciation:
- These types of lessons are prepared for developing
attitudes, feeling and values among students.
Lesson plans related to skills:
- This skill lessons are designed to achieve the
psychomotor learning objectives. It includes skills of
reading, writing and speaking.
