Tracy recently joined BD and has taken some time to talk to us about her experience and share her views. Welcome to BD, Tracy !

What is your experience of Diversity in the
Workplace?
For 2½ years I led the Pathology & Laboratory
Medicine at a Hospital which was ranked
number 1 in Saudi Arabia where the cultural
norms are to treat people differently based on
gender, religion and nationality. It is only when diversity was restricted
that I really understood the true value of it. It is very challenging to be
in an environment where the norm is to discriminate between peoples
for a variety of reasons
Why did you choose BD as an employer of choice?
I have joined BD as the Director of Medical Affairs for Europe and am
humbled and immensely impressed with the consideration and support
given to me from the very start of my on-boarding. This is clearly a
company that supports diversity and inclusion and I am honoured to
join the multi-national European team.
What advice would you give a woman looking to succeed in business?
You need to be true to yourself and the values that you hold whilst
working in the framework of the environment that you are in.
Seek to understand first, then seek to add value in a way that is inclusive,
making sure that the ‘quiet’ voices are heard.
... And very importantly, give praise and recognise staff at every
opportunity, giving feedback and coaching in a timely manner.
