Experience
Assistant to the Editor at ‘Prospects Magazine’ (November. 2026 – 2035)
Working as the assistant to the editor of ‘Prospects Magazine’ meant that I needed to manage more responsibilities and
duties in comparison to my time as an intern. Responsibilities such as supporting the senior editor staff for all activities
such as the planning and production of the magazines publication. Overall I acted as a personal assistant to the
commissioning editors to oversee task, such as issuing contract and dealing with fees.
Other tasks and responsibilities included writing articles/ reports, as well as amending the articles wrote, researching
the work of several authors and using specialist electronic publishing software’s such as ‘InDesign’ and ‘QuarkXPress’. I
was also needed to work with phone and email queries from writers and the public.
My organizational skills were highly improved due to my job position requiring me to organize research projects to
tight deadlines. As well as filing and photocopying for administrative tasks.
My communication skills improved even further in comparison to work as an intern due to my position as an assistant
editor required me to work along side other in-house teams. This included the writers, photographers, printers,
designers and the production staff. Working with them was needed for the monitoring and negotiation of the timescale
process for the publishing of each magazine issue.
This work also allowed me to branch out with my experience in writing because I had the opportunity to upload pieces
of writing, and imagery, to the website for the magazine. Along with compiling and distributing newsletters using
specific software. My writing skills also improved due to my job needed me to proofread and editing online content,
whether it be for the magazines website or on social media.
Internship at ‘Choices Magazine’ (July, 2021 – 2025)
In the year 2021 I began an internship at ‘Choices Magazine’ based in London. This internship required me to work with
the editor to help find interesting entrepreneurs who can write articles who can educate and motive the readers of
‘Choices Magazine’. This also involved me sending out questionnaire and helping to construct interviews, which lead to
me attending events to meet and interview potential clients.
As well as searching for entrepreneurs who can write interesting articles for the magazine I also had the opportunity to
come up with the ideas for good editorial pieces. While doing this amount of work with so much variety it helped
develop my skills in research by learning how to do it more efficiently and how to source from other articles that leads
to creating content and interviews for writing pieces of work or for potential clients.

Doing this internship helped me to understand the value of work, particularly for work within the media. It gave me a
fresh opportunity to develop skills and experience needed to work in the media industry, especially for media work
orientated with magazines and journalism.
Skill developed from the internship included a development in my communication skills for meeting/ interview future
clients and meeting/ interviewing participants for articles that I got to research for. It also gave me an idea for the
hours and work duties needed to work in a magazine.
Education
Kingston University, London (September, 2018 – 2021)
To prepare for the working world of journalism and to gain the skills and qualifications needed to become a journalist I
attained a Journalism BA (Hons) course at Kingston University, London. It was a three-year course, full time. During the
first year I gained the skills needed to become a multimedia journalist through writing and research. This work taught me
how to identify news stories and what makes them good features. For the second year I built up more portfolio with the
skills and knowledge that I was learning. Skills and knowledge such as writing and shorthand, which is what developed
and increased more portfolios work making, said portfolio more suitable for the working world. I also learnt about print
and online media, which broadened my knowledge, on what different kinds of journalism there is to do in the working
world. The third and final year of university required me to attend core modules that put my learning into practice within
work placements. I also had the opportunity to work with the campus’ newspaper, ‘The River’, in terms of producing.
Skills
One of my skills that are useful within the work place and for work within journalism is organization. I am able to
work to tight deadlines because I understand the importance of time management and how to separate my work
and time in an orderly fashion to work well together to achieve each task within the allotted time needed. Whether
this be for planners, calendars, journals, filling, etc. I am also very organized with how I store my work and keep
all work pieces safe for the future. This requires me to back-up as many ways as possible for every piece. Using a
USB and have each piece of work in a categorized file and placement for easy access. This is also saved on work
and home computers that are then emailed and saved on a hard drive for safekeeping. Organization of work is also
done in a similar fashion with hard copies through files in and out of filing cabinets. Doing all of this ensure all
work is safe, clean, in good quality and of easy access for the future.
I am very well skilled with communication within a team. I understand the importance of working in a team and
that it is a requirement for the media industry. Not only am I aware of how to contribute all participants’ ideas and
opinions shared but also how to voice my own to fit the work we are aiming to achieve. When working at ‘Choices
Magazine’ I learnt to work as a leader to team multiple times so my communication skills are equip to handle
teams and keeping everyone’s mind and intentions at the task at hand to finish what is needed in time with good
quality. My skills in organization also help when working in a team because I know how to make plans and
diagrams to put the research and development of the task at hand.
3. 3
As well as working in a team I am capable of working independently for tasks. I understand the importance of
working in a team and that there is an equal importance when working independently. When working as the
assistant to the editor at ‘Prospects Magazine’ I learnt to work around others and complete task provided from
them. I have skills in research that allow me to work through the tasks in a quick and efficient manner to meet
deadline, whether they be with short notice or not.
