5. Editing :
In this short film Continuity Editing is
used to suggest a naturalistic style. It is
cut together to show a natural
progression in time and a linear
narrative. Jump-cuts are used as time
jumps to different locations, for example
from the warehouse to the pub. But the
most prominent editing style is shot /
reverse shot, used between Michael and
Liam in there ‘meaningful’ exchange
where they talk about deep subject
matter such as Michael’s lack of a father
figure.
6. Mise-en-Scene:
Location:
In this short film there is only 3
main locations. The Warehouse,
the pub and the pitch black
room. This draws attention to
the narrative and their reasons
for doing what they do.
Costume/Hair & Make-Up:
As the movie is in black and white,
colours don’t not matter or reflect the
characters personalities. The style of
their outfit is therefore important. Both
costume and hair is kept simple and
casual to not draw attention from the
narrative.
Relationship:
As we later find out, Michael is Liam’s
son and Michael has been putting on
this front and trying to “bond” with
Liam, but ends by seeking his revenge
and makes Liam take the blame for
the heist and subsequently go to
prison for a long time.
