This session was presented at SocialHRCamp Vancouver 2023 (June 15, 2023) at BCIT's Tech Collider by Brenda Rigney - https://www.linkedin.com/in/brendarigney/
Don't hold back on making decisions as a HR Leader. Even in a disruptive and uncertain business climate, making decisions saves time. Living in miserable maybe and indecisions is stopping you from learning and growing in your leadership and impact within your organization. Learn that there are no wrong decisions...just more decisions to make. Making decisions propels you forward. You will learn how to make intentional decisions, shift your mindset and impact when making decisions, create a culture of making decisions with other leaders, and evaluate your decisions to minimize the amount of indecision you are creating.

5. ACTIVITY
1. Think of the decisions you made in the last week.
2. Pick one decision.
3. Why did you make that decision?
4. Would you make that decision again this week?
7. The brain’s job is to
detect danger and
conserve energy.
The brain operates
off a motivational
triad of: low effort +
avoid pain + seek
pleasure.

12. We make more decisions in our 20-30’s. It’s a powerful time in
our lives. We make less decisions in our 40-50’s. Reinvigorate
your desires and you’ll start making new decisions.
13. Once you’ve made a decision on something…make it
again, and see if it is as powerful.
14. Stop making decisions on auto-pilot. Start
making decision aligned to your purpose,
vision, values and goals.
15. Get off the island of miserable-maybe. NO is a
powerful decision. YES is a powerful decision.
Release yourself from maybe.
16. Don’t score or rate your decisions before
making them - good/bad, right/wrong.
17. Notice if you’re only thinking of the worst case scenario.
Think through the best case scenario and then discern
which scenario gets you closer to your vision.
18. Make decisions quickly not slow. It’s a fallacy that better decisions come from
slow work. Gather your facts (ideas + impact) and then make a decision versus
staying in your story.
19. Overthinking your decision gives you a false sense of security and justification
that you made a better decision because it took so long to make.
20. Once you make a decision, take massive action
immediately. These actions will reaffirm your
decisions. Keep doing this over and over again.
21. Saying, “I don’t know how to do XYZ” is a dream stealer.
Ask yourself, “How can I do XYZ?” Then start making
decisions and taking massive action.
25. Don’t underestimate the invisible workload of a decision maker…
Ask yourself:
● Do I only like to do things when a favourable outcome is guaranteed?
● Can I leap into the unknown even if I fall on my face?
● Am I capable of exploring disappointment & curiosity at the same time?
● Am I a people pleaser, or do I have the skills to say no and draw boundaries?
● What is my tolerance for being misunderstood, ignored or rejected?
● Do I know how to work outside of the paradigms of good/bad, success/fail,
positive/negative?
● Do I know how to affirm, validate and celebrate myself & my work, especially
in unfamiliar circumstances?
