Welcome - what is SPC? SPC is a global, volunteer run community for developers, designers, builders - and anyone who is passionate about building the future of work on Slack.
SPC Chapters are where people come together to learn from each other, stay up to date on the latest Slack Platform improvements – like everything we’ll talk about today – and share their expertise, in their hometown, meeting up at least four times a year if not more often.

It’s no surprise that the community has grown rapidly since launching in late March - there are over 600K developers building on Slack, and 90% of paid customers use Slack apps. It’s a global movement.
The Slack Platform launched in December of 2015
The objective we stated was that “The Slack Platform aims to make your experience with apps even better” The mission hasn’t changed: Whatever tools a company uses -- now or in the future — We make the experience of using those tools better, because teams use Slack, and Slack’s Platform helps its customers get more value out of the tools they use. Slack sees this vision reflected in the data.

When Platform launch Dec 2015, wanted it to be easy to get started.
Built for the technologies that were popular at the time -- webhooks, slash commands and chatbots.
At that time, Slack was also just getting started
Because userbase was largely technical,
the platform’s openness invited experimentation.
Now, >12M daily active users & majority non-tech roles, needs have changed.
Slack’s platform has evolved, too.
Adding more interactive components - things like buttons, menus, and dialogs.
Last year at the first Spec, launched message actions.
This winter, at Frontiers, showed you how to build with Block Kit.
But you need more
More capabilities from the platform to make your apps easy for everybody.
Slack needed to provide you with a better toolkit.
Users want it to be easier to discover, understand and use apps
Developers want all that too -- it drives growth!
and you also asked for a clear path -- what’s the “best way” to build an app, and that’s what Slack announced at Spec.
Finally, Slack announced two certifications for their new certification program.
This program makes it possible for you to become certified as a Slack Admin or Developer, meaning you’ve demonstrated the skills you need to manage Slack at scale,
Or build amazing Slack apps for any organization.
The Slack Certified program features courses where you’ll be able to meet peers like you, a study guide to make sure you’re prepared, and an exam to prove you’re certified.
You can sign up today to get certified in person in NYC and Vancouver, Canada, with more cities to be announced.
