  2. 2. 5G will be about many services and use cases – early trials in dense scenarios • More capacity → denser networks of small cells • More coverage means more cells → small cells more easily deployed • More spectrum at higher frequencies → small cells needed for shorter ranges • More bandwidth with low power shared spectrum → small cells needed shorter ranges Small cells will be at the heart of 5G © Small Cell Forum Ltd 2017 5G requirements point to even denser networks of smaller cells

Early trials point to new architecture © Small Cell Forum Ltd 2017 Without a new architecture, networks will fail due to: • the cost of supporting rising demands • power consumption demands • lack of resource flexibility Many early 5G trials are already focusing on these challenges in dense or challenging environments
