Aotearoa has such a rich history. Why do we know more about American or English history?
Who is Robin Hood? The Lone Ranger? Who’s Guy Fawkes? Who’s William Wallace? Who is Jessie James? What is Halloween? Where is the Tower of Pisa? – Who is Te Awaitaia? What is Huiputea? Where is Kaniwhaniwha?
Understanding Multiple literacies. Talking to one another. Modeling to our tamariki how to cherish history – how you share, how you care. Laughing crying, being angry…
Learning indigenous process. Organic processes. The ethereal connection – separation of Ranginui and Papatuanuku
Strive for excellence. Learning to be humble in both victory and defeat.
Papa te whaititiri, hikohiko te uira whakahekeheke ana ki runga waikato pakia – our environment is changing.
“I am more than the sum of by parts” – Aristotle. A gibe to try harder and/or a plea to do your best?
Examples of my writing
Authentic learning. Using culture to learn, through multiple literacies, Spatial awareness, oral language skills, opportunities for engagement, and feedback/feed-forward.
Beauty is all around us. Learning is all around us. From these photos discussions/lessons can be created around oral language/story telling, Mathematics, Art, Science, PE, Spirituality, History, etc. And all without a classroom, book or pen in sight.
Remembering simply - who you do this for, and Sharing your gifts. Dr Shane Edwards alluded to this when he mentioned that – everyone has talents: and these talents/gifts were given to you by your whanau, your tupuna. We have a responsibility to share those talents/gifts on behalf of our whanau/tupuna. We are not the keepers of those talents, we are the Kaitiaki and the Kaimanaaki for our future generations.
