• NID was established in 1961 at Ahmedabad. It is a premier institute of design
and research. NID entrance exam offers 4 years of a degree course for
undergraduate students. i.e. B.Des (Bachelor in Design) and Post-Graduation
Degree Programme in Design (M.Des) It also offers 2 or 2.5 years of Post-
Graduation Degree Programme in Design (M.Des).

9. NID campuses across India
• NID campuses are situated in the following cities of the nation:
• Ahmedabad (Main Campus), Bengaluru, Kurukshetra, Gandhinagar, and Vijayawada.
Admission at NID, 2020
1. NID will release admission forms in the month of October till November 2019 for Undergraduate
Programme. Then Admit cards will be available in the first week of May 2020 and exams will be held in
the mid-week of May 2020. NID releases it’s Merit Lists for the Admission purpose of the candidates by
the end of the same month.
10. • Admissions to all of the design courses are granted on the basis of a two-stage
competitive exam. The objective of these exams is to assess the knowledge, skills and
behavioral abilities of candidates. STAGE I: Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Prelims It is
conducted at various centers all across India. STAGE II: Design Aptitude Test (DAT)
Mains Shortlisted candidates after the Design Aptitude Test Prelims will be invited to
appear for the Stage II Design Aptitude Test Main exams at one of NIS’s campuses in
Ahmedabad, Bengaluru or Gandhinagar.
11. Eligibility Criteria for Admission in NID for
Undergraduate Programme
• Candidates fulfilling the prescribed age and educational qualification criteria for the concerned
programme may apply Bachelor of Design (B. Des) and Graduate Diploma Programme in Design
(GDPD)
• . For General Category: Upper age limit for candidates is 20 years.
• . For OBC, SC & ST Category: Upper age limit for candidates is 23 years.
• . For PwD Reserved Category: Upper age limit for candidates is 25 years.
• . For Foreign Nationals in Overseas Category: Upper age limit for candidates is 20 years.
12. Educational Qualification:
• Applications for academic year 2020–21 will be open to applicants who have passed or will appear
for higher secondary (10+2) qualifying examinations in the academic year 2019–20 in any stream
(Science, Arts, Commerce, etc.) from any recognized board of education such as CBSE, IB, ICSE or
their equivalent.
13. How to apply:
• Based on the sources obtained in the DAT Prelims, eligible candidates will have to appear for DAT
Mains. The Admit Card for shortlisted candidates will be available for download only on the official
NID admissions website (www.admissions.nid.edu). DAT mains would be a situational test where
candidates will be given questions where they have to make models followed by Interview.

NOTE:-
• Please see that the question paper will be in English Language only and it is compulsory to attempt
all the questions. There will be no negative marking for any wrong attempt.
• Based on the DAT Prelims scores, separate merit lists shall be prepared for each category (OPEN,
OBC – NCL, SC, ST, and PWD). Shortlisted candidates only will be eligible to appear for the DAT
Mains exam.
