PROJECT RESEARCH ASSIGNMENT
TOPIC - MANUFACTURING INDUSTRIES
(WINTER CLOTHS)
2. Purpose/Background
Purpose is defined as why the project is considered
to execute. What was the need or problem.
Winter clothes Manufacturing Industries. This
project is undertaken to boost the economy of the city
as well as to provide large numbers of jobs in the city
Moose Jaw. Finding job in this city is very difficult part
and because of that people are living or moving to
another city.
3. Scope
Scope is the goals that are listed to produce or task to be
done and the task which will not be done in the project
Getting approvals from Moose Jaw government. This work will
be done at initiation of project to get approvements.
Finding lands and dealing legal works. This can be done
parallel to getting approvals at initiation.
Constructions. After completion of legal work and fixing land,
construction can be started.
Procuring machineries. Procurement of machineries will be
done parallelly with construction, but delivery will be done
after construction and after all inspection and delivery notes
of machinery.
Implementing machineries. Once delivery will be done
successfully then machinery will be fitted.
4. Success Criteria
Success would be when the whole project would complete
in targeted time and allocated budget. Achieving the main
purpose of the project can be said as success of project.
Completion of construction.
Successful implementation of machineries.
Job revenue at Moose Jaw city.
Moose Jaw city growth.
Demands of the cloths manufactured at this site.
5. Constraints
“Constraints are general boundaries that need to account for during the
project life cycle” (Asana, n.d.) Four quadruple constraints are scope,
schedule, budget and quality.
Scope: Scope is to build a manufacturing industry with installation of
machineries. If there will be any scope creep in project then there hight
chances of change in schedule and budget. Schedule might get delay and
also budget also gets high but if one tries to maintain schedule or budget
then maybe quality get affected.
Schedule: Schedule of the project is 2.5 to 3 years. If there are any
changes in schedule like delay in project then budget can be affected
because of inflation or can be by fix-cost things in project.
Budget: $ 1.78 million Budget is assigned to the project. If there are any
miscalculation or any change in budget then it can affect scope as well
as quality of the project.
Quality: Quality can be achieved when all the above three constraints
work exactly as per plan.
Risk: Risk can be the weather and not getting the machineries on time
and in both case the project can get delayed and high chances of

Communication Norms:
We can use the cloud platform to share
and edit documents.
Face-to-face meetings during progress
report analysis and stakeholder's
meetings.
Email to ask queries and for any urgent
updates.
Virtual Meetings (Zoom).
Conflict Resolution:
Understand the conflicts and explore
alternatives.
Communicate both the sides and find a
neutral solution.
Address conflicts as soon as possible
and find a viable solution.
Meeting Norms:
Arrive on time for meetings or inform the
team leaders regarding it.
During meetings, only one person may
speak at a time and everyone will be
given equal opportunities.
Meetings will e held on Mondays every
week to check the progress of the
project and evaluate the team members
performance.
Decision Making:
All decisions regarding the project
should be made within the team.
Every member of the team has the right
to raise their queries.
In case of conflicts among the team
members the project manager is the final
decision-making authority.
Team Responsibilities:
Treat everyone with respect and
communicate openly.
Give constructive feedback.
Be time efficient and meet deadlines.
Weekly Progress Report Meeting:
Every week in-person meeting will be held
to make sure project is on track by checking
the schedule and milestones and worked
achieved.
If someone or something is not going as per
plan or due to any hurdle the project is
getting delayed, then the project manager
and all other members will coordinate and
try to find best possible solution.

10. Process groups / Life Cycle Stages
Initiation - These documents are developed for the advancement of Moose Jaw by
constructing a manufacturing industry to produce winter clothes and generate the job
revenue for the town. It will take approximately 3 months to complete.
Planning - The Request for proposal was made, where various bidders came in and
bid in the bidder conference. The appropriate vendor was finalized by the project team
and the contract was awarded. This project phase will take approximately 3 months to
complete.
Execution - After the construction at land, subsequently, we carried out internal
work such as installing the machineries, power supply, raw materials storage, and finally
after all set up the machines were ready for their first work trail.
Monitor & Control - With the guarantee of providing top-notch services to the
end consumers, we had to stay within scope, price, and deadline. The project was ready
for the pre-liminary acceptance test. We identified a few errors, that were resolved to the
earliest, and the project was headed to its final acceptance test.
Closing - At last, overall project details are defined in the lessons learned and the
project is handover to the operations team. This phase will take approximately 4 months
to complete.
11. Ethical Issues
1. Health and Safety Issue
Project team have to make some precautions manual and do’s and don’ts list.
Air Temperature and air speed will be at terrible situation as temperature will remain
between -10 to -50 degree Celsius it is difficult to work in that kind of situation.
Physical activity must be according to the human tendency, as they are working in the
area with very low temperature. The excess amount of physical activity may cause to
stress and fatigue. Which can result in delay in project as the speed of the workers
lower down.
Rest and Break time must be included if warm up break is not included then the
worker will feel so tidy and can get ill as their body is continues in the exposure of
cold weather.
2. Workplace Culture Issue
This is essential when working on projects with team members from various cultural
backgrounds since some behaviors may be viewed as annoying or even threatening in
another culture.
Workplace cultural differences are a collection of attitudes and actions that recognize
and value the presence of all various groups in a workplace or commercial setting.
Race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, language, gender, age, and handicap are
all examples of cultural differences
12. Ethical Issues
Method to overcome above said ethical issues
To make it sure that every worker should have proper education for
example they must have JIC certificate, WorkSafe of
Saskatchewan launch a JIC certificate in 2006 which will give
complete knowledge of standards of safety and health issue in
Saskatchewan workplace.
Rest and Warm up break will help the workers to keep their body
warm and rejuvenate their energy. It will also increase the
tendency of a worker to work more hours without any stress.
Design of Equipment, metal handles and bars need to be wrapped
in thermal insulating material for work done below the freezing
point. Additionally, devices and instruments ought to be made so
that they can be used without mittens or gloves.
Emergency Procedure and steps to take in order to have medical
attention and administer first aid should be specified. At least one
trained individual should be tasked with taking care of
emergencies throughout each shift
13. Outcome
Initially there were problems in execution of the procurement of machineries while
having contract with vendors as there were dissatisfied with delivery of it. But this
process was executing parallel with construction of industry and had float time and
was not on critical path project manager got time to figure out possible ways to deal
with it without affecting critical path timeline.
Also, there were some challenges and weather conditions over the project period,
with the help of Lesson learned register it was pre-planned to work accordingly.
Initially there were also some conflicts in team members to work together as they all
were superior in their field; it was difficult to bring them on one ground to work
together. But, by referring the norms and conflict resolution technique, it overcomes
and team passes through Bruce Tuckman's described stages.
In this project, also there was lot of procurement and contract given to outsource
such as construction, machineries etc. which results into miscommunication and
conflicts so project governance was referred to take decisions.
Because of all these standard concepts and dedication of team and project
manager’s skills such as communication, team building, decision making this project
became a successful and generated jobs for the people of Moose jaw.
Lastly, Weekly progress report meeting also played a very important role in the
project as project team came together to discuss the obstacle they encounter and to
find the best possible solution for it.
