This is an english book review of Run Zan Run, written by Catherine Macphail. I am 15 years old, swedish and would really hope for your opinions on my text.

1. RUN ZAN RUN!
Summary of the book:
Katie is almost fourteen years old and living in England. Every
day at school she has to face her friends who are no longer
talking to her and teachers who won´t listen. But that´s not the
worst. Katie is constantly being threatened and bullied by Ivy
and her gang. When Katie meets Zan everything changes. Zan is
homeless, living in a cardboard box and with no one to trust.
Slowly Katie realizes that there´s something wrong with Zan.
What is she afraid of?
Who is Zan?
On the inside Zan is a sweet and kind person, but to strangers
she can be perceived as rough and mean. When Zan first met
Katie she didn’t really care about her, but still in some way she
felt sorry for her. Later on she became more and more friendly
with Katie even if she would get upset with her sometimes.
Zan doesn’t want to be found because of the evil man who
killed her parents (Mr Whittaker). She’s a problem child who
used to run away from home, and when the house got burnt
down everyone blamed her. Zan is a strong person both
physically and mentally. It strikes me that she´s tough enough
to live on her own without her parents, without a home and
without real food.

2. Who is Katie?
Katie is also a nice and caring person. Before Katie met Zan she
was quiet and didn´t take much place in conversations with
neither her teachers nor her parents. She kind of just went with
the flow without protesting against her bullies and teachers.
When Zan came along it gave her new hope because Ivy got
scared of the weird ‘’lassie’’.
Everyone at school thinks that Katie and Zan are the same
person because no one has seen them together. Katie can now
take advantage of her being Zan to prevent Mr Whittaker from
finding Zan. This gives her respect at school, that the little girl
Katie could fight Ivy and her gang all by herself.
In the end, Katie became a tough girl with no fears. Just like
Zan.
What do you think about the book?
I think that this book was really exciting and adventurous. It
has real-life situations and could possibly be based on a true
story. I like it when the author leaves ‘’cliff-hangers’’ at the
end of each chapter. Then it becomes almost impossible to
stop reading. I usually don’t read so often but this book was
probably one of the better.
