This document summarizes the properties and performance of a new hydrocracked very high viscosity index (VHVI) basestock called Yubase, compared to other basestocks. Yubase has properties including a viscosity index of 123, low pour point of -12°C, and low noack volatility of 7.2% that make it suitable for high performance engine oils. Test results showed engine oils made with 100% Yubase provided better oxidation stability, low temperature viscosity, shear stability, and friction properties than conventional basestocks. Yubase is a promising new VHVI basestock for meeting the stringent requirements of modern lubricants.
