2. Kidergarden
• All over Iceland we have kindergardens for 2 years old to 5 / 6 years.
Some areas have younger kids and the aim is to go down to 18
months in most communities.
3. From 6 to 16
• In Iceland the common school is for 6 to 16 years old but in some
areas in Reykjavik we have schools for 6 to 13 and then 14 to 16. The
schools for the older one collect students from several schools and
are bigger than normal school in Iceland.
4. From 16 to 20
• We have high schools for 16 to 20 years old people where they can
either aim for university and learn social, language or science or they
can go to vocabulary schools and study to become a carpender,
electrician, plumber or something similar. But in the vocabulary
schools they can also aim for university.
5. Universities
• We have several universities in Iceland. Two in Reykjavik, two in the
west of Iceland and one in Akureyri in the north.
6. What is most in common
• Most of the Icelandic students aim for higher education and wants to
go to university.
• We have a lot of lawyers, business people, and engineers but we need
more teachers, nurses and midwifes.
