This gross was raised by blockbusters such as Spider-Man, Men in Black II and xXx In 2006 Columbia also helped with such blockbusters as: The Da Vinci Code, The Pursuit of Happiness and Casino Royale and reached a record high sum of $1.711 billion.
5. SPIDERMAN Spider-man is a superhero film based on the fictional Marvel Comics. The first film in the franchise was released in 2002. It stars Tobey Macguire as Peter Parker, who realises his spiderlike powers! The first film got a box office of smash of $800million with just a budget of $140million. First film to reach $100 million dollars in its first weekend; the largest opening gross of all time. The first film continued with Spider-Man 2 in 2004 and Spider-Man 3 in 2007; all directed by Sam Raimi.
